My Mothers

We call them by different names: Mama, Inay, Mommy, Mom, Inang, Nanang, Mamang, Mother. I'm dedicating this post to three beautiful, incredible and amazing women who are a big part of my life, I call them my Mothers...all three are born on the same month, October - 31, 7 and 12.

Most people come into our lives and quickly leave but never our Mothers. My Mama (Judith Daniel Alberto) passed away at an early age of 43, but up until now, whenever I am faced with difficulties, Mama is always there to guide me. She talks to me through my dreams. She laughed, lived and loved fully, always reminding us that life is about loving, giving and forgiving. I love you Ma! Until we meet again, but not yet...

I met Mama Esther (Estrellita Aralar Mendiola) October 24, 1993, when John introduced me to his family as his "girlfriend". Mama is tall, mestiza and very frank. She accepted me not just as his son's girlfriend but like her own daughter. I've been married with her son for 10 years now, but Mama still cooks for us, guiding me from time to time on how to cook this and that food. I love you Ma! Thanks for the yummy food...

The first time I saw Mamush or Tita Jo (Jocelyn Lim Alberto) I did not approve. She met my dad two years or so after Mama passed away. Papa told us he'd never marry again so naturally I was defending my Mama from this woman, whom I felt, by that time threatened to rob my father from us and from the memory of Mama. Fate has it's own way of twisting our life's plan. Today, I am greatly thankful to Mamush for coming into our lives...for taking care of Papa and loving him through sickness and in health. I love you Mamush! Thanks for your patience and understanding...

"The mother is everything - she is our consolation in sorrow, our hope in misery, and our strength in weakness. She is the source of love, mercy, sympathy, and forgiveness. He who loses his mother loses a pure soul who blesses and guards him constantly."
---Kahlil Gibran
