Save Palawan Movement

I have yet to visit the magnificent land of Palawan, hopefully this year. My brother Jubert has been in Palawan twice already and he can't get over the beauty of this place.

There's a plan to put up a mining in Palawan. I support the Save Palawan Movement by saying NO TO MINING IN PALAWAN! Please read below for more informations on this movement.

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Palawan Campaign

We would like to share with all of you an important news related to the traveling of a Palawan indigenous delegation to Manila, where they should arrive on the 6th of July.

The indigenous leaders’ mission, facilitated by ALDAW and led by Artiso Mandawa (ALDAW Chairman), is a direct response to some disconcerting events that took place last week when about 30 “fake” tribal leaders, so-called Tribal Chieftains, went to Manila in order to show support for MacroAsia Corporation (MAC), despite opposite views from the majority of the Indigenous Peoples of Brooke’s Point Municipality (http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/10383/palawan-tribal-leaders-threaten-to-sue-ncip-execs-over-delays-in-mining-project).

These so called Tribal Chieftains have been appointed by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) to favor multi-billionaire Lucio Tan’s owned MacroAsia Corporation and other mining companies.

The mission of the ‘true’ indigenous representatives aims at bringing their voices and grievances to the attention of NCIP and, thus, to counterbalance the ‘fabricated’ testimonies of the ‘fake’ tribal chieftains.

Detailed information on the mission are highlighted in the two web- international releases by “Intercontinental Cry” and “Rainforest Rescue” (see links below) to which we are immensely grateful for their continuous attention and support to the struggle of the indigenous peoples of Palawan http://intercontinentalcry.org/indigenous-palawan-leaders-to-confront-the-national-commission-on-indigenous-peoples-in-manila/
http://www.rainforest-rescue.org/

An additional Action Letter (addressed to NCIP, Pres. Noynoy and Cced to PCSD) will be posted soon on the Rainforest Rescue website, with the aim of putting sufficient pressure on this particular case and to deliver a strong message to both NCIP and the President...that is: the majority of IPs and Farmers in Brooke’s Point Municipality are, indeed, against mining.

According to official information, between June 15 and 17, the NCIP will convene an en banc meeting to decide on the issuance or non- issuance of the Certificate of Precondition to MacroAsia Corporation. The eventual endorsement of this important document will allow MacroAsia to proceed towards the next step: getting the (Strategic Environmental Plan) SEP clearance from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD).

We have no much time left to influencing NCIP, in the hope that a responsible decision will be made. Therefore, the support of each one of you and of your own network of friends and colleagues will be essential in getting as many signatures as possible for the forthcoming Action Letter, as well as to ensure that many individual letters will be e-mailed to both NCIP and the Office of the President.

We count on your support!!!

Many anticipated thanks to all
