Occasions of JOY 1st Year Anniversary cum Mommy Bloggers Meet

Compared to most of you Mommy Bloggers, I don't earn from blogging. I blog to share my thoughts hoping to infuse some happiness to my readers (nagpapalusot pa...wala lang alam sa blog to pay talaga!). Anyways, Occasions of Joy will be turning 1 year on February 20. There were a lot of things I wanted to do on that day but since most of us here in Pinay Mommy Bloggers are not personally acquainted, I thought of organizing a Mommy Bloggers Meet on February 20, 2011. I just came home from a meeting and finally got a venue.

Bubble Wrap's 50th Birthday

Listening right now at 94.7 The Mellow and learned from Deejays' Tracy and Vince that today is Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day. Can't help but be teary eyed for I remember my Grandmother, Lola Ebeng, who passed away 4 years ago. When my Lola was still alive she would always ask me to buy her bubble wrap. She liked popping it. She used to say that popping bubble wrap makes her day.

In memory and appreciation of my late Grandmother, Lodovina Perol Daniel, I will be popping some bubble wraps later...

History: (Source: Wikipedia)

Bubble wrap was invented in 1957 by engineers Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes. Fielding and Chavannes sealed two shower curtains together, creating a smattering of air bubbles, which they originally tried to sell as wallpaper.[4] When the product turned out to be unsuccessful as wallpaper, the team marketed it as greenhouse insulation.[4] Although Bubble Wrap was branded by Sealed Air Corporation (founded by Fielding and Chavannes) in 1960, it was not until a few years later that its use in protective packaging was discovered.[5] As a packaging material, Bubble Wrap's first client was IBM, which used the product to protect the IBM 1401 computer during shipment.[4] Fielding and Chavannes were inducted into the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame in 1993.[5] Sealed Air celebrated Bubble Wrap's 50th birthday in January 2010.

Walk Away

I've been bad the last quarter of 2010, really bad that I am now reaping what I sow. I've enjoyed too much pleasure from the last year's series of events that now my bad cholesterol is elevated once more.

I am ashamed of not living up to what I believe in - the 3 H - live healthily and honestly to be happy. I am going back to my old routine: a cup or two of Nesvita in the morning.

I am also doing this Nesvita 14-day challenge I came across while doing our grocery yesterday.

Just today I woke up at 5 in the morning to do some brisk walking. My husband actually asked me to join him for this walk. I didn't wear my rubber shoes for I know I'll be quitting and rush back home after a kilometer walk. I really wanted to go back home after 2 kilometers, then 3...until we finished 5 kilometers. It was a good walk while having a nice conversation with the person who has stood by me thru thick and thin, literally speaking, mataba man ako o payat.

This is the reason why the coming of a new year is always a welcome thing for people. You can walk away from the past and embrace the present.

Viva Vigan

History of Vigan

Juan de Salcedo, grandson of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, settled in Vigan in 1572 and renamed the area Villa Fernandina after his King’s son. He built Vigan patterned after his grandfather’s construction of Intramuros. In 1755, the seat of Nueva Segovia, the diocese of northern Luzon that was first established in Cagayan, was moved to Vigan. The cathedral was built in 1790 and 1800 and stood out among Vigan’s beautiful sights. Since then, the city was developed by the Chinese merchants and artisans who inherited the next aristocracy.

Things to do in Vigan:

Watch the ruins..

...and the still good structures.

Picture-picture with family...

...girlfriends, Zeny and Amy...(our names ends in 'Y')

...and the kids, too...

...not to forget, the MEN in our lives, who drove 10 hours to reach Vigan.

Shop...

Shop still...

Shop, till you drop...

Popsicle eating, the Vigan way, is a refreshing treat for the little one especially

on a hot summer days

What not to do in Vigan: Urinate outside the restroom

(Nah, my man is just pretending, he likes making kulit pose)

You wouldn't miss Manila for Max's is just around the corner...

...and McDo...

Remember to laugh...

...and pray.

Chapel on the Hill

Chapel on the Hill is a Retreat House and a very nice Wedding Chapel or Venue which I had an opportunity to visit for the very first time last December 17, 2010 in preparation for an On The Day (OTD) Wedding Coordination project for Mendoza-Bermoy Wedding.

The Chapel on the Hill has a unique and a calming ambiance. It has a 360-degree view of the surroundings through its glass walls and windows. The view is so lovely and the place is so solemn. The chapel has a circular pattern on the floor which is called the Labyrinth. As explained in the entrance of the chapel, “the labyrinth is a sacred circle with a single path that leads to its center. Walking the path lends itself to prayer and meditation. This kinesthetic style of prayer is especially valuable during those times when words cannot express the depths of heights of our experience”.
Bong Mendoza, The Priest In-Charge and Lhen Bermoy-Mendoza

Having your wedding here will be a memorable one for you will feel all the love your guests will show just by being here, considering the distance from Manila.

Before leaving Chapel on the Hill, caught this lovely scene from a newly wed's photo shoot

Feel free to email me if you wish to hire a Wedding Coordinator at joydamendiola@yahoo.com

Visit my Events Planning and Hosting site at Facebook: Occasions of Joy

How to Get There:

From Tagaytay, take the way going to Nasugbu, Batangas. Turn left at the entrance of the Evercrest Hotel and Resort (after Petron Station). You won’t miss this hotel as it has a huge entrance gate. Chapel on the Hill is located about a kilometer from the entrance. Just ask the guards for directions but it is located on the left side. It shares the same main gate entrance with Calaruega Church, the hotel and Don Bosco.
