In three months time, I will be celebrating my 39th birthday. Time flies so fast, indeed! The saying "life begins at forty" is something I have to prove next year. What I know for the moment is that, yes, I am getting old.
It used to be when my daughter would volunteer to pull my handful of white hair. Ngayon, ayaw na even when bribed with five pesos for every strand of white hair pulled. In her own words, "Mom, it's like so many. If I pull all your white hair you'll be panot on this area".
After each and every wedding coordination and hosting I'd do, I bring home bouquet of flowers for my eighty-something year old neighbor, Lola Fe. And each time she'd call me and say thank you for the beautiful flowers. Just that and we'd both hang the phones. Last Monday was totally a different story, another indication that, yes, I am getting old.
Lola Fe: Hi Joy, thank you for the beautiful flowers.
Me: Ah wala po yun Lola Fe.
Lola Fe: San galing ang flowers?
Me: Sa wedding po.Lola Fe: Bakit, nag-anak ka sa kasal?
Ouch! My husband was laughing, even added insult to injury when he said, "matanda ka na talaga, Babe. Di ka na tinatanong kung abay ka sa kasal, ninang na ang tanong!"
I'm not afraid getting old, I welcome the years ahead. I just hope that when I get older, like Lola Fe, I'm still a joyful person and that I have given much love and happiness to people I met along the way.

trust me you won't get old that easily simply because happiness & joy is in your heart =)
ReplyDeleteadvance happy birthday my ever joyful joy!!! mwaah more blessings to come...
thanks for that wonderful comment. wavyu, star!
DeleteI am afraid of getting old Joy, haha :) But what's more scary is getting old broke and most people don't save until they realize they are about to retire. It's ironic how when you still have the energy to enjoy life, you have to work and when you're old - you have time for adventure but not the energy x.x
ReplyDeleteIt's undersatmdable that you're afraid of getting old, bata ka pa e. You're right about the irony of age, energy and work.

ReplyDeletepaalam to my 30ish years, isang taon nalang 40 na ko e. hahahaha. ang labo ba?

ReplyDeleteAmen to that, Starry gurl, and if that happens, Joy will age gracefully. ;))
ReplyDeleteI really hope to age gracefully and joyfully. I'm a very sentimental, emotional person, so baka gravefully e mentally (as in sa mental!) hahahaha.
