BDJ Rendezvous at SM Makati

It's been quite awhile since I last attended Belle De Jour's Rendezvous.  I feel too old for the crowd. Once there, age does not matter. Both young and old ladies (a handful of men came in, too) had fun joining games and asking questions about fashion and life as a whole.

Kat Dy, hosted the event and was also the speaker for the "Work-Wear Essentials". This I'll be sharing in my other blog: www.joyousfashionandbeauty.blogspot.com

PJ Lanot delivered an outstanding (fun and inspirational) talk on how to Really Shine.

All the girls went home with raffle prizes,

and game prize, too.

As always, Darlyn Ty was the busiest - taking photos, checking the sound system, the projector, the prizes, the program and serving food for all the Bellas.

Kahanga-hanga ka talaga, Dar!

Special thanks to my friend, Beth, for signing me up for this event. Sayang nga lang, she was not able to make it. Labyu, Betchabye!

Nakapagpapainit at Nakapagpapasaya

(I translated to English para mas maintindihan nya)
Juan: Okay, Mom.
Juan: Why, Mom? What's mataas na araw ba?

(I translated to English para mas maintindihan nya)
Juan: Okay, Mom.
Ako: Sino ang nasa limang daan (five hundred)?
Juan: Ninoy and Corazon Aquino.
Ako:  Sa dalawang daan (two hundred)
Juan: Diosdado Macapagal.
Ako: Nasaan si Jose Rizal?
Juan: Heaven.

Not Just Another Pretty Face

Lian was first introduced as one of EB Babes in Eat Bulaga.  At first glance, I knew this girl is not a just another pretty face.  There's something about her that made her stand out among the rest of the girls.  She's timid but when she spoke, she knows what she was talking about.  In short, may talino.

I first saw Lian (along with her EB Babes sisters) around 8 years ago at the opening of Crossings Department Store -Trinoma.

Our second  time to meet was at The Body Shop - Glorietta months ago. When I recognized her, I said ,"you're Lian of Sex Bomb, right? Sobrang galang nya, her reply, "EB Babes po". Ay sus, pardon my kalimot.

I was again invited to cover The Body Shop - MOA store last June. This time, I took the opportunity to interview Lian.

She's a graduate of Communication Arts at Miriam College. While studying, Lian was working for Mcdo as Marketing Assistant. She joined Eat Bulaga's dance contest because she likes dancing. She was then given a contract as one of the EB Babes group.

Since I'm a Paolo Contis fan, I asked Lian about their love story. They met personally by accident , literally speaking!  Here it goes...Lian had car accident, she then called GMA News to ask for help. The person who got her message accidentally sent the txt message to Paolo. So Paolo, sent some policemen friends to help Lian.  Long story short, that accident proved to be the way for them to meet and eventually fall for each other.
At 24, Lian now works for a PR company as Media Relations Executive. She is happily married for 3 years  with actor Paolo Contis. They have two pretty daughters, Xalene and Xonia. Lian teaches Zumba for private classes and she's part of Enchanted Garden's cast in TV5.

The Next Level

I have written about my ab work out in my beauty and fashion blog,
http://joyousfashionandbeauty.blogspot.com days ago and because of that I get emails and messages as to where they can buy it. As I've said in the post, it's already out of stock. Then I met Eliz at McCormick Bread Spread Launch. I also shared with her this Envy Ab workout. I told her, I'd send the link to her. It took me awhile to email her, I just actually emailed her a few minutes ago.  Aba, ako'y na-surprise, Eliz took it to the next level by searching this ab workout. She sent me a better link, the video which helped me find "ang nawawalang abs"! Nawa ay makatulong din sa mga babaeng tulad ko - bata man o matanda; nanay man o dalaga.

Of course, as a warning, consult your doctors before plunging into any sports or exercise activity. Always start with warm up...

Eliz, thank you for sharing this link.

Aparisyon Gala Night

Yesterday at CCP, I attended Aparisyo's Gala Night with my friend Star and her family. Honey and her better half, Arnold, were there, too. Unfortunately we were not able to see each other because the place is packed with fans, sponsors, press and stars of this movie.

Aparisyon is set in the pre-Martial Law days of the Philippines. The story tackles a very sensitive  psychological drama that has never been featured in Philippine movies.  The characters are contemplative nuns played by powerhouse cast, namely, Jodi Sta. Maria, Mylene Dizon, Raquel Villavicencio, Rustica Carpio and opera legend Fides Cuyugan-Asensio.

I was more afraid and shocked with the storyline, I thought I was not going to cry; and yet I did. Tears fell off my eyes with Jodie and Mylene's confrontational scene. The director was able to convey   the pain, sorrow and hatred without the two actresses throwing  hurtful words at each other.

Star is one of the supporting characters as a nun, too. Knowing that Star is comedic in real life, I was waiting for her to crack up a joke in the movie. And the director gave a bit of that star "patawa" scene. The audience clapped and laughed at Star's simple but funny line. I'm not going to ruin it for you. Just watch it.

Aparisyon is a Cinemalaya New Breed Full-Length Feature Category finalist. Directed and written by Vincent Sandoval, who flew straight from New New York for the casting and production of the film. I hope to see more of his directorial, as well as written projects in the future.

The Outstanding Farmers Awards 2012 Universal Harvester Launching

JCI Philippines and Universal Harvester, Inc. (UHI) today launched the search and awards for TOFARM 2012 -- The Outstanding Farmers of the Philippines recognition program -- for the most noteworthy achievers and achievements in the agriculture sector of 2012.

The nationwide awards program cites the achievements of both public and private entities engaged in farming and includes traditional and modern farmers, fisherfolk, animal raisers, cooperatives, farm communities, organizations, scientists, the academe, LGUs and public employees, as well as business entities in rural and urban areas.

The Awards Program is the special tribute set aside by the Junior Chamber International-Philippines for the agricultural sector which is seen to still be the main driver of the country’s development.
Its main goal, according to JCI Philippines National President Randolf  Ivan Ruste, is to foster the steady increase of youth venturing into the agriculture sector, invigorating investment and scientific advancement to achieve sustainable food supply.

Ruste said JCI partnered with Universal Harvester this year to pursue the program last held in 2003. “We have found our perfect fit in pursuing our common vision of  helping the Filipino farmer in Universal Harvester,” Ruste said. “We are both concerned about the improvement of conditions for the farmer and are working together for better urban-rural relations through a keener understanding of agricultural concerns.”

UHI, a progressive Filipino company, is involved in the direct manufacturing, local distribution and exportation of a number of world-class quality fertilizers. “We are passionately pursuing our mission of reviving Philippine agriculture by promoting farming as a noble, lucrative profession and a key pillar in nation building,” said Mrs. Milagros Ong-How, UHI Executive Vice President. “Through these Awards, we also want to excite rural and urban youth about farming. We want them to see it as a viable, highly rewarding career and a great way to help their country.”

The UHI lady executive said her dream is for the Filipino youth to go back to the land and revive its promise besides just aspiring towards high-paying jobs in the city.
“Today’s farmer faces both great challenges and wonderful opportunities. With assistance, they can turn the agriculture sector around so it can fulfil its main goal of achieving food sustainability for present and future generations. Many farmers now are entrepreneurs engaged in agribusiness that deals with various aspects of farming, including technology, farm implements, fertilizers and insecticides that will raise the volume and quality of crops while taking care not to violate  environmental regulations. There is a bright future for the youth in farming,” Mrs. How added.

TOFARM will give out 11 awards this year, said TOFARM Project Chairman Rommel Cunanan : six in the individual category and five in the group category. These are : Farmer, Fisherfolk, Livestock, Agri-Entrepreneur, Young Farmer, Agricultural Innovator and Urban/City Farmer in the individual category; and Agriculture Cooperative, Family Farmer, Local Government Unit, Agriculture Initiatives and People’s Choice in the group category.

The nomination period for Outstanding Farmer candidates begins August 1and will end on September 30. Validation and Judging of nominees will take place in October and November, while the Awarding takes place in December.
Nominations may be submitted as hard copy or sent online to www.tofarm.org. Nomination forms may be downloaded from the website.
For more information, call the TOFARM Hotline 709-5001 to 54, fax 709-5006 or email info.tofarm@gmail.com.
