Philip Abadicio has been in the media business for quite some time now. Beginning with as a contributing lifestyle writer at The Manila Times and later on, for Mega and Sense & Style magazines. Through his PR firm, RPA & Communicate, Philip has learned the ins and outs of the industry which has also allowed him to rub elbows with the nation’s top showbiz, business and media personalities. He is currently the editor-in-chief of the country’s online lifestyle source, StyleRPA.com.

I met him last year when he invited me for a food review. Since then, he'd invite me to cover and  be the first to know about the newest in fashion, food, arts and many more. I tell you, I've seen and met many wonderful, fabulous and popular people because of Philip. Get to do the same at the comforts of your own home by watching Philip's new lifestyle magazine and talk show called “It’s More fun with Philip”, airing every Sunday from 10 to 10:30 pm starting this December at TV5.

It’s More fun with Philip is a 30-minute show that is sure to be funny, exhaustive, and honest (just like Philip!).  The show has four segments, namely Bago Ang Lahat - featuring the newest dining options, chill spots, fitness forays , fab finds, hippest trends in fashion, travel, and arts;  Anyare? segment is the news-like portion of the show, wherein tidbits of hot topics are taken in a lighter manner, as the hosts will have the freedom to discuss and express their comments and ideas without being all serious and boring; Eto’ng Ganap! will feature the latest events and coolest happenings in the country-- from the most jumpin’ and packin’ parties in the city, to the hottest product launches, and Pa-Talk will highlight the one-on-one interviews with sought-after celebrities from all sorts of industries.

How Beautiful Are You?

My son, Rafael, gave me letter for my 39th birthday with the title, How Beautiful Are You? He wanted me to answer it by encircling Aurora for Super Beautiful, Belle for Very Beautiful, or Jasmine for Beautiful.

I was torn between choosing Aurora and Belle. Eventually, I settled for super beautiful. Aba, sino pa ba naman ang magmamahal sa sarili kundi sarili din, diba?

Then my son asked, "why did you choose Aurora, Mom?". I answered in a flash, "because I'm really super beautiful!".  I thought that it was the end of it but Rafael continued, "how can a woman say  that she's super beautiful?". Ala e, parang tanong sa Binibining Pilipinas! I paused for a long time, thinking and searching for an answer  that will satisfy my son's curiosity.

Eto ang isinagot ko, "being beautiful does not only mean having pretty face. It has to be the whole being. Meaning, you have to have a good heart, being kind and all not just to people you love but also to people who needs to be loved".

Rafael then said, "ahh, okay, you're super beautiful nga, Mom".

I was touched by what my son said. At least now I know, I am beautiful not just physically, hehehehe! O, walang aangal, blog ko to! Sa mga gustong magreklamo, pumunta lamang po sa pinakamalapit na himpilan ng barangay.

HAVE A GREAT WEDNESDAY NIGHT TO ALL MY READERS (kung meron man). Minsan gusto ko ng itigil ang pagtipa dito at wala naman atang nagbabasa.

Inspiring Elbow Guitarist

One of the many things I wanted to learn was to play the guitar but I didn't get to or I was just too lazy to give it a try. I would always say, I will eventually learn, if not in this lifetime maybe in the next.

My longing to learn to play the guitar suddenly sparked after watching this inspiring feature about the amazing elbow guitarist named Dante Alvero at Umagang Kay Ganda just a few minutes ago.

Dante lost his hand while flying a kite years back. For a year he suffered depression and didn't go out of the house. He found solace in playing the guitar and composing songs. Right now he works as a government employee.

I am praying Dante makes it big in the music industry, para di masayang ang talento. Watch this video as Dante plays his own composition, Angel of Mine.

For you, Dante, nawa'y kumatok ang magandang oportunidad sa larangan ng musika.
I hope to meet you in person.

A joyful Monday to all!

One Minute of Fame with The Village People

Yesterday's schedule was very hectic. Starting in the morning with Shake, Rattle and Roll's pocket presscon at Imperial Palace Suites, Carl's 7th birthday at Jollibee - Ortigas Extension at 2pm, Benito's 3rd birthday at Jollibee - Congrssional at 6pm, and The Village People's concert in MOA at 9pm.

The road was heavily congested coming from QC but my husband made sure to drive fast enough to beat legendary group's event because he knew how much I anticipated enjoying this concert.  It was fifteen years ago when I watched a concert. TVP's concert is not one I will allow to pass. We arrive just in time for TVP's first song. I was ecstatic! I sang and danced from end to finish. I burned all the calories I ate at the 2 Jollibee parties I attended.

At the start, I was joking Honey and Lyn that I will go up the stage. No one was minding me, until they saw me dancing and singing with TVP.  I had a taste of one minute of fame with THE VILLAGE PEOPLE! I will try and upload the shaky and blurred video later.

The Village People made it big starting in 70s so their music is very close to my heart since I am a 70s baby.  Tell me to exercise and I play In The Navy or YMCA songs rather than the Bieber's.

The concert was made complete with the presence of my friends.

Havaianas Pays it Forward with Design a Smile 2 for the Benefit of Operation Smile

When was the last time you made someone else smile? That is the question Havaianas asks you as it launches the Havaianas Design a Smile 2, a flip-flops design contest for the benefit of Operation Smile Philippines.

First launched in 2010, Havaianas Design a Smile gives children the chance to show their artistic talents by designing the next Havaianas Smile pair – a special design which will be produced into an actual Havaianas pair, with a percentage of the sales to be donated to Operation Smile Philippines, a non-profit organization which provides life-changing surgeries to children with cleft lips and cleft palates. The initial run generated more than 2,000 entries and raised more than PHP 100,000 from donations alone during this period.

“Havaianas believes that summer is a state of mind and can be lived every day of the year whenever you adopt a happy and carefree attitude,“ shares Anne Gonzalez, Managing Director of Havaianas Philippines. “And nowhere else is that more evident than in children. With Havaianas Design a Smile, we hope to generate funds and awareness to support Operation Smile in our shared mission to spread smiles all over the world.”

This November to January, Havaianas Design a Smile 2 is back, with the theme “Paying it Forward: Kids Helping Kids.” Beginning November 24th, artistically inclined kids can join Havaianas Design a Smile by submitting their designs illustrating their answer to the question “What will you do to make other people smile?” at partner events nationwide, beginning with the Bonifacio Global City Passion Fest at Bonifacio High Street from November 23 to 25, and at the Mommy Mundo Bazaar at the Rockwell Tent from November 24 to 25. Winners will receive exciting prizes from Havaianas, Bobble, Pininho, Hobbes and Landes, McDonald’s, and Sony. The grand prize winner will also have his or her design produced as part of the Havaianas 2014 Collection as the Havaianas Smile pair, with a percentage of the sales from which will help fund the operations of Operation Smile.

A Leg Fashion Show Like No Other

People close to me know that I am a lover of stockings and socks. Back when I was working, I'd buy stockings and socks more than shoes and bags. I was very to glad to have attended A Leg Fashion Show Like No Other upon the invitation of one of the designers, Ferdi Salvador.  The wonderful, fashionable line up of designer socks and stockings has once again sparked my longing to wear one.

The show was presented by Manila Bay Hosiery Mills Inc. (MBHMI), makers of Leg Love by City Lady and Elements by Gold Toelast Wednesday at Zuellig Building entitled Leg Love Fashion Show.

The goal of this event is  to further strengthen its position as the market leader in fashion hosiery in the country.  MBHMI showcased four diverse designers, who are in their own right, proved that fashion is not complete without this leg necessities.

Renan Pacson's I Love Hue  collection is inspired with his love of street style , interesting mix of materials and by the feeling of being young, which he wanted to celebrate with bursts of colours.  Renan took his collection to a new plane by taking his inspiration from three different patterns that evoke his youth. By combining pressed fossilized flowers, melted crayons and confetti his collection is a myriad of fresh new patterns and colours.  The celebration of Hue-th is truly a Renan Pacson signature.

Multi awarded Pablo Cabahug's City Lady’s Leg Love Designer Series evoked more emotion than geometric patterns this season.  The Central St. Martins educated designer drew inspiration from the emotions of a black widow.  His patterns became bolder and stronger which has become his new aesthetic.  The collection gives a new twist to women who command power and are strong willed and does not compromise when it comes to fashion.  Pablo Cabahug encapsulates wearable emotion with his collection for Leg Love Designer Series.

Bianca Valerio's Leg Love Couture is inspired by the glitz and glamour of her world, her collection this season is all that and more.  The use of rhinestones and crystals lends the wearer the illusion of a longer leg and little surprises that titillates the eyes with sparkles. Leg Love Couture line is directed to the fun and sophisticated woman that doesn’t mind being a little adventurous with her fashion.  Little curiosities like an arabesque pattern on the ankle add the right spice to the woman that wears .

Ferdi Salvador's Elements by Gold Toe is inspired by his travels abroad.  The street preps of London, the conservative but fun “suits” of Hong Kong, and the colorful palette of Barcelona’s laid back fashion culture. But more than that he is inspired by his sock loving friends like Martin Wisniewski, Enrique Lopez, Enrique Yupangco, Siggy Manglapus, and David Celdran to mention a few that are leaders in their industry but are not afraid to be fashionable and add that fun twist with their - SOCKS.  From subtle polka dots to mondrianesque patterns, Elements by Ferdi Salvador gives you another season of wearable fun and fashion that is forward.

Leg Love by City Lady and Elements by GOLDTOE are available at SM Accessories and other leading department stores nationwide and online at www.leglove.net  and  www.elementsbygoldtoe.com.

Jewels That Tells Stories

Being a friendly and chatty person, I get to know people who make a difference in other people’s lives.

Last Saturday at Yabang Pinoy Fair in Rockwell, I met Costume jewelry and accessory designer PJ Valenciano.  PJ’s booth differed from the other booths because every piece tells of a story of beauty and empowerment, thus aptly named Palamuti Storytelling Jewels.

PJ’s designs use indigenous Filipino materials and are mostly inspired by the Philippines’  culture and arts. Her client base includes famous people in showbiz and society here and abroad.

What makes PJ and her work really stand out is her approach and personality towards the success of her business. She does not talk much about herself but of the people she has inspired, taught and guided in making one-of-a-kind-fashion accessories. PJ has 2 beaders, namely Ate Tess and Novi . Ate Novie was PJ’s yaya, whom she taught so she can have something to do and not be a yaya for the rest of her life. Novie is young girl whom PJ sort of like adopted.

Altogether, their work meet  their clients’ satisfaction because more than the price tag, the high quality, level of craftsmanship, attention to detail and the stories behind all their creation is all matters.
