Mitoy - The First Voice of the Philippines

Mitoy Yonting, Nora’s bet/neighbor and the vocalist of the Draybers emerged as the first ever winner of “The Voice of the Philippines,” besting Klarisse De Guzman.

Klarisse’s voice is surely as sweet as honey and as smooth as baby’s skin (I actually think she has a better voice than her coach, Sarah Geronimo) but it was the votes that made Mitoy win.

The “Total Eclipse of the Heart” performance of Lea Salonga, Vice Ganda and Mitoy made me call Nora and tell her, “Mitoy is definitely going to win tonight”.

I also love the performance of Janice Javier with the iconic folk singer Lolita Carbon of Asin.

Mitoy Yonting owes his winning to the voting public, and he owes it to my friend Nuts. It was Nora who opened my eyes into liking, voting and magpakapuyat (sleep rather late) for Mitoy.

Some people do not agree with the result. Some even tweeted and posted in FB “so it’s not about the voice after all, it was about the vote”. Let’s face it, Mitoy has the voice. His advantage was that he got us with his comedic ways, plus that big wide eyes he flashes every time the camera focuses his face.

In the end, it all boils down to one thing, MITOY YONTING is the first ever winner of “The Voice of the Philippines.

Megan Young - Miss World 2013

Out of 127 candidates from all over the globe, Megan Lynne Young was crowned Miss World 2013. 2nd placer is Marine Lorpheline of France and the 3rd placer is Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter of Ghana. The coronation was held Saturday, Sept 28, in Bali, Indonesia.

Young, who placed first among the top 10 semifinalists also coveted the Top Model challenge and placed 5th in the Beach Fashion pre-pageant challenge.

The 23-year-old actress, model, host made history as the first-ever Filipino winner of the title since the Philippines' debut in the pageant in 1966.

In the question and answer portion where the candidates were given 30 seconds to tell the judges why they deserve the crown, Young expressed her belief in a "core value of humanity" which guides people's actions. She hopes to use this to show others how they may contribute to society.

Well, with what Megan said in the pageant, I hope and pray that the power hungry-greedy-politicians in our country will one day grow conscience and follow the belief of this Ms. World.

Megan's proud Mom.
When the host asked Megan's Mom about what she tells her daughter, she said, "I always tell her to be kind."

If the whole Philippines is happy and proud for Megan, meron pa bang mas liligaya pa sa kanyang ina?

Sa gitna ng mga kaguluhang nangyayari sa ating bansa, simbolo ka na may pag-asa pa ang bayan...You made us proud, Megan!

(Photos are not that clear because I'm seated at the back. No, not inside Bali stadium where Ms. World was held, I was just seated at the far end, meaning sa pinaka likod ng mga anak ko. Photos are taken while watching at the delayed telecast in GMA 7)

Nuts Over Mitoy of The Voice - Philippines

Nora and I first met in 2010 at a Mommy event of Johnsons and Johnsons. I came to her and asked if she's also going to the event. As a very sociable person, I kept on talking as if I knew Nora for a long time but I sense that she wasn't interested to talk to me so I kept a distance.

Since we both know Pehpot Pineda (my super mentor), Nora and I met in many Mommy events from time to time.  We became close only in the late months of 2011 when we traveled together in the provinces. From then on I called her my super blogger-travel buddy.

Last February I faced one of the darkest and saddest moment of my life and it was only Nora who stood beside me. Since then she proved that she was more than just my super blogger-travel buddy. She is a friend for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, in travel or no travel, with ulam or no ulam, may pan taxi o wala.

I so wanted to write this on her birthday last September 2 but I didn't for I don't like to sound corny, though admittedly I am corny.

Anyway, since Nora believed in me when I needed her most, I am doing the same by believing in her favorite The Voice contestant, MITOY. I first heard Nora talked about the band Draybers 2 years ago when we went in Resorts World. She said that its lead vocalist is her neighbor. Then I totally forgot about it.

When The Voice started, the normally quiet Nora was suddenly highly visible in FB, in Twitter, in Instagram and what have you just to promote Mitoy. So I got curious and started watching The Voice.

Last week was a tough time for Mitoy so I showed Nora some lovin' by voting for Mitoy. I'm supporting Mitoy all the way tonight til tomorrow. This is all for a friend who never left me on the battleground. Nora is nuts over Mitoy so I'm doing the same.

*Nuts, you carried me through all those lonely-crying nights, this one is for you...VOTING for MITOY!!!
(*we fondly call Nora Nuts because of her food blog Flakes and Nuts)

My dear readers, I hope it's not too much to ask, please vote for MITOY...

Fashionable Friday: Beauty in Broken Things

I've worn this flower necklace in many events. I must admit that it never fail to draw attention...

---even Tessa Prieto-Valdez found it cute. Just cute maybe because it's just one piece. Knowing how dramatic and fabulous Ms. Valdez, a compliment from her - even if it's just cute, is still a compliment.

Let me tell you a short story...

This metallic flower used to be an accent of my daughter's hairband. I turned it into a ring when part of it broke, using only double adhesive tape, glue and recycled metal ring.

I've used this ring for about 3 months then it fell off. The glue could not hold its weight. It was too big for the ring itself.

Then again when the metal ring broke I turned it into a necklace with the help
of pliers, metal wire and metal locks.

You see, there's beauty even in broken things...

iACADEMY's Bachelor of Fashion Design and Technology

iACADEMY's invite for an afternoon of Accessory Design Workshop proved to be an exciting and fun day for fashion and lifestyle bloggers.

I thought it's one of those event where we will sit, eat and listen to the speaker.  It was actually an awesome experience as Manu Respall of the famous Dogg Ficher shared his thoughts, knowledge and wisdom in creating and designing accessories and more.

According to Manu, "Art is subjective. Art is dot/period. You do not create art to please people. You create art to communicate, to share what's inside you. Art means to C-R-E-A-T-E". When you create you need to define the Character, the  Reason, the Event. the Treatment and the Ergonomics or Execution of your design.

The multi-talented Manu opened my chinky eyes into embracing my creative side as we designed our own accessories using only bond papers.

iACADEMY's Bachelor of Fashion Design and Technology Students

It was so fun Nora, Lyn and I challenged ourselves to win that prize. Little did we know that our young counterpart, my niece, will win. I didn't even know Chumcee had it in her if not for this workshop.
The grand winner, Chumcee, third from left, proudly showed her blazer entry

If the workshop was fun, exciting and an eye-opener what more if I enroll at iACADEMY's Bachelor of Fashion Design and Technology where they hone and develop students to be professional and excellent in the field. The comprehensive curriculum integrates art, fashion, and technology to develop competent graduates for the global industry of fashion. Courses under the program are taught and facilitated by global top-fashion practicing professionals supported by top-of-the-line facilities. CW Home Depot

We originally wanted a customized shower enclosure for our bathroom so we asked around and we were told the kind and size of shower enclosure we want costs around P25,000 and up.

We can't break our budget just for a shower enclosure so we went around and finally found it at CW Home Depot. We got it way cheaper at P8,100 only.

Aside from the savings we got, I appreciate CW Home Depot free bottled water they give to their clients.

And more than the water they gave us, I'm super happy going to CW Home Depot because of Carmen.  Her service is commendable. She was super patient with all my request and queries even if she's not assigned to my account. The girl assigned to us was no where in sight.

If you're buying something at CW Home Depot, look for Carmen Sendino or you may reach her at 632-0772 locals 601, 602, 606.
