Forever Young, a 1992 film with elements of romance, drama and science fiction, directed by Steve Miner, starring Mel Gibson and Isabel Glasser, is the movie that made me fall in love with watching movies because it was the very first movie I watch with my husband (who was just then my suitor) in 1993.
The movie involves two young lovers in 1939. Mel Gibson (as Daniel McCormick) is a test pilot who asks his best friend to use him as a guinea pig for a cryogenics experiment. Daniel McCormick wants to be frozen for a year so that he doesn't have to watch his girlfriend lying in a coma. The next thing Daniel knows is that he's been awoken in 1992.
While we were watching the movie, John held my hand. Without saying a word, I put my head on his shoulder. The rest they say is history. I came from 3 failed relationships prior to watching Forever Young but this movie made me realize that true love is real after all.
John and I will be celebrating our 21st year of blissful life together on September 11. It's been our tradition to watch Forever Young twice a year (Valentine's Day and on our Anniversary). But now we watch it with twins Julia and Rafael and bunsoy Juancho.

DeleteForever Young managed to make a tear or two trickle down my cheeks when I first saw it. It was- and still is- a wonderful movie.
ReplyDeleteFor me though, the movie which made me fall in love with watching movies was E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. I found the plot about a boy befriending an alien simply endearing.
