I was a fearless bike rider but that was more than 2 decades ago. I stopped riding a bike when I turned 17 because I was busy studying and working at the same time. From then on, I lost the appetite for cycling for fear of getting sunburn and inhaling all the pollution.
John gave me a bicycle for my 41st birthday last July 12 for he wanted us to ride together since his friend, Dr. Gilbert, is way too busy to join him regularly.
It took me 17 days and 17 benefits of bicycling before riding this bike:
1. Cycling is one of the easiest ways to exercise.
2. Good for saving the planet
3. It burns calories - Sports physiologists have found that the body’s metabolic rate – the efficiency with which it burns calories and fat – is not only raised during a ride, but for several hours afterwards.
4. Tones the legs, quads, glutes, calves, and sculpts your upper body, giving a balanced tone.
5. It Boosts Energy by triggering the brain to release the neurotransmitter dopamine, which is linked to energy.
6. Protects the joints because it is less stress on the knees, ankles, and spine than walking or running 7 Lowers blood pressure and LDL or bad cholesterol
8. Faster form of transportation. Going to Novaliches, by car or cab, takes me an hour and a half. By bus, usually 2 to 2 1/2 hours. It took just an hour bicycling my way to my Papa's place.
9. Sleep more deeply by getting rid of cortisol, the stress hormone that can prevent deep, regenerative sleep.
10. Optimize collagen production, thus make one looks younger.
11. Helps ward off Alzheimer’s by increasing brain power.
12. Makes immune cells more active, so they’re ready to fight off infection, thus reduce the risk of cancer.
13. Help strengthen your cardiovascular system.
14. Boosts motivation, creative thinking and happy hormone in the frontal and limbic regions of the brain thus strengthen the ability to deal with stress.
15. Healthy family bonding.
16. Spend quality time with your partner
17. Improves sex life (hmmm!).

I can't recall when was the last time I rode a bicycle. So long that I have to think twice if I have typed the word correctly or not. I plan on biking again and hopefully get better so I can confidently ride with other bikers as well.
