If There's a Will, There's a Way

I get to visit my mom twice a year in La Loma; during her death anniversary, April 9th and her birthday, October 31.

Mama would have been 66 years old today...

I knew I wouldn't be able to visit Mama this time because I was not feeling well prior and til her birthday.

Despite my condition and  adding to the fact that traffic is terrible during Halloween, I got to visit Mama by biking from my place to La Loma because I always believe in the saying, "if there's a will, there's a way".

My life and bike buddy

My father, siblings, nephews and nieces were there when we arrived. They knew I was not coming.

Papa, Tita Jo and younger brother Jubert

Kuya Bob and Andrei

Bea and Bang
Yuri, Waldy, Charlize and Liz

To reward my husband for his unending support,
on the way back home, we stopped by Kowloon House to buy John's favorite siopao.

Pfizer Love Your Bones Global Campaign

Yesterday at Flavors in Holiday Inn and Suites, bloggers were treated to a calcium-rich event of Caltrate Plus for Pfizer Love Your Bones  Global Campaign to help address the growing problem on osteoporosis.

Bloggers were treted to a bone screening; I'm glad that my result is within the normal range

The event was hosted by Andi Manzano.

Pfizer Consumer Healthcare (PCH) partnered with the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) to spearhead the local celebration of World Osteoporosis Day  (WOD). Aptly themed "Served up Bone Strength, WOD 2015 focuses on the importance of adopting a bone-healthy diet throughout a person's lifetime to optimize bone strength.  The campaign highlights the point that poor nutrition is one of the critical risk factors for developing bone-related diseases. Pfizer Consumer Healthcare support the IOF in its advocacy to inform the people about osteoporosis and the fact that it can be prevented, Adequate intake of the right nutrients contributes to bone health at all ages and is a first step in osteoporosis prevention.  For those who already have osteoporosis, a bone-healthy nutrition should be part of their treatment and rehabilitation program.

WOD is an occasion when people around the globe unite to put the spotlight on the immense burden caused by osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal diseases, and the actions that can be taken to prevent and treat them.  It aims to put bone, muscle, and joint health on the global health agenda.

According to IOF, osteoporosis affects over 200 million people worldwide.  Approximately one in three women and one in five men over the age of 50 will break a bone (also known as osteoporotic fracture) due to the silent disease.

Fractures, specifically hip fractures, can cause loss of function and independence with 40% of patients unable to walk independently; 60% requiring assistance a year late; 33% being totally dependent on or in a nursing home.  Moreover, hip fractures cause the greatest morbidity with reported mortality up to 20-24% in the first year after a person suffers a hip fracture

In the Philippines, PCH has remained a solid supporter of this global movement and has advocated various activities in the past to raise awareness on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease. Exercise is important in the prevention of osteoporosis, and yoga is one of the best that help enhance bone health.

An overview of yoga during the event

It is crucial to build strong bones early in life by following a healthy diet as it is the key ingredient in helping a person achieve peak bone mass, and maintaining it throughout life.  Proper nutrition is also an important factor in battling osteoporosis. Young chefs demonstrated how to cook calcium-enriched quishe.

Three of the major nutrients that help optimize bone health are: calcium, vitamin D, and protein, with recommended daily allowances varying throughout life. "Regulating calcium levels in the body promotes better bone mass density (BMD), alongside improving muscle performance and balance. Taking a calcium supplement with adequate levels of Vitamin D3 also helps maximize calcium absorption.

While works, it is also important to have holistic approach to osteoporosis prevention and management.

Osteoporosis is an incurable disease, but controlling its risk factors and complying with treatment regimens where prescribed can ensure a mobile, independent, and fracture-free life.

Luljetta's Hanging Gardens Spa

I've been asked many times by friends about Luljetta's Hanging Gardens Spa. They wanted to know if it's worth going to. All I can say to them, "I haven't been there but I've seen photos from some FB friends. Well, different views from different people."

After our Pilgrimage at Regina Rica, before going back home, we headed at Loreland Farm Resort, where Luljetta's Hanging Gardens Spa is located.

Luljetta's is the first and only Hanging Gardens and Spa in the Philippines. It is beautifully set in a mountain in Antipolo City, Rizal Province.  As we dipped in Luljetta's infinity pool, the view of the majestic Laguna De Bay and Manila skyline is breathtaking anf beautifully entertained us.

The famous Antipolo suman is the snack included in the package

Suman is served with a lemongrass iced-tea. It would have been better if it is served with a brewed coffee.
I hope Luljetta's will give the guests an option between coffee or lemongrass iced tea.

There are plenty of art pieces all over the place.
They said these are all proudly Pinoy and Antipolo made.

The package we experienced is called Hanging Gardens Retreat. Adult rate is at P1,100; Rate for senior citizens and children 12 and below is P880. For 5 hours you can enjoy the following inclusions for Hanging Gardens Retreat, namely free use of locker, traditional bathrobe, towel, shampoo, conditioner and liquid body soap, heated jacuzzi, hydro-massage pool, infinity pools and snacks of fried Antipolo's best suman.

My kids love the basket where they put the robes and towels. It reminds them of special occasions like birthdays, Christmas, and our home because we have plenty of native baskets in the kitchen.
Locker is provided (included in the package) they'll provide native bags that you can use while enjoying the place.
Juan liked the batik robe as he feels like a samurai of some sort (lol!)

Although we've seen mostly couples and group of friends enjoying Luljetta's, I highly recommend this for families because it is a great bonding activity that the children will enjoy and remember.

Luljetta's lovely view will bring out the romantic side of  any one.

Quotations like this one can be seen where the plants are.

At the heaed jacuzzi Juancho happily pretended to be the bubble man.
Enjoy the panoramic view at the infinity pool

Must see is the dramatic sunset

1. We were not able to take many photos because we arrived around 5pm, it was almost dark. So if you plan to take home more nice picture be sure to arrive between 1 to 3pm.
2.  Luljettas requires a lot of climbing stairs, if you are not advneturous like us, you might ot enjoy the whole experience.
3. Although they accept walk-in guests, 7 days BOOKING IN ADVANCE IS A MUST!

Don't forget to take lots of selfie!
