Should You Be Friends with Your Ex?

My husband and I went on a couple spa recently. While John and her therapist were quietly doing the massage, my therapist and I kept on talking about life, her family, her husband. And then she giggly said, "I have something to tell you, Ma'am!"...

Her first boyfriend (she only had two, of course the last one became her better half) whom she has lost contact after migrating to another country, suddenly found her in FaceBook after 40+ years. He asked for apologies for breaking her heart in the past and that he wanted to reconnect with her.

The lady is in her senior years, but she was happily telling the story as if she's a young kid. Pati ako actually natatawa at natutuwa. Imagine at 60+ kinikilig pa daw sya. I could feel her heart beating fast as she stroke my belly so I asked her, "kikitain mo ba?". She didn't answer but instead asked me, "Ano sa palagay mo, Ma'am". I replied, "If I were you, kikitain ko at sasampalin ko, hahahaha!"

John's therapist butted in and said, "Ako kikitain ko din. Wala naman na yun, past is past, baka magso-sorry lang".

But my husband has a different take on the matter and said, "What for? It might rekindle some old fire hidden beneath the heart. Why tempt fate?".

Ikaw anong gagawin mo? Should you be friends with your ex? Please leave your comment below and I might surprise one or two with a Bubbleman gift pack😉😉😉.

Miss Universe 2017

To all the bashers of Maxine Medina, please be kind enough to stop saying mean words to her in social media. Let's face it, Maxine had a large shoe to fill. Every Filipino is expecting or at least hoping to get a back-to-back win. Ang stress at pagod nya pa. Ako nga noon, Miss Barangay lang na contest e nahirapan, si Maxine pa ba. Kidding aside, Maxine did her best. Pero ika nga sa Pinoy na kasabihan, "pag hindi uukol, hindi bubukol".

Congratulations Maxine for making it to the Top 6. Miss Haiti - Raquel Pelissier bagged first runner-up and second runner-up was Ms. Colombia - Andrea Tovar.

To Ms. France, Iris Mittenaere, mabuhay ka!  She's the second Ms. France to win the title since 1953. Para talaga sa kanya ang crown. Mittenaere, 24, is a Parisian native, currently pursuing a degree in dental surgery. She plans to use her Miss Universe platform to advocate for dental and oral hygiene.

And to all the contestants, thank you for gracing our country, Philippines!

Fun Ville Family Adventure with Jif, Tree Top and Regilait

Sunday is an exclusive day for my family, the #Mendiolables. We usually just stay home to relax in preparation for the busy week ahead. We only break the sacred day when friends and loved ones invite us for special occasions.

This Sunday my family headed at SMX in Mall of Asia to attend Paul Riyadh Chuapoco's invite for Fun Ville Family Adventure. Paul, known as Paul The PR Guy in the blogging world, is one of the coolest and nicest bloggers I know, so there I said yes to his invitation.

The event featured fun-filled activities for two days but we only attended earlier today for a food demonstration with Fun Ville Family Adventure with Jif, Tree Top and Regilait.

GoodAh Launched a New Dish and Opened a New Branch

GoodAh launched a new dish and opened a new branch recently in Baclaran with the presence of GoodAh's Ambassador, Boy Abunda.  The new dish is  none other than favorite Filipino classic dish, Kare-Kare!
Boy Abunda posing with the Krispy Kare-Kare

Marites Guevarra (Treasurer of GoodAh), Boy Abunda, Juliet Chua Chong-Noel (Director, REGAL COMMISSARY INC.),  Ivy Velasco, Vonn Velasco (Pres.-REGAL COMMISARY INC.), Timothy Yang (President of Soyamensa Foods Inc.)
But what GoodAh!!! adds to the table is what gives it the “K” in the KKK. The usually gamey ox tripe or what Filipinos usually “tuwalya” is tough to eat if not cooked properly— usually by slowly cooking it in a pot or by cooking it in a pressure cooker. What GoodAh!!! did was to fry the ox tripe to give it a crispy texture, which is a complementing contrast, especially to the soft flanks and rich sauce of kare-kare. It’s a real crispy twist on the classic dish! GoodAh!!!’s Krispy Kare-Kare is available for just Php 299 a la carte or everyone can have it in a set meal for just Php 339.

Marites Guevarra (Treasurer of GoodAh), Vonn P. Velasco (REGAL COMMISSARY INC.), Timothy Yang (President of Soyamensa Foods Inc.), Tess Ignacio (Operations Manager of GoodAh),  Ivy Velasco, Juliet Chua Chong-Noel (Director, REGAL COMMISSARY INC.), and Emelyn D. Umali (Managing Director, REGAL COMMISSARY INC.)

Broken Mirror - Inside A Chinese Marriage Book Launch

I've read and heard stories of people, even friends and relatives, in a loveless marriage and so it was just right to support the book launch of the  Broken Mirror - a book about the life of Aurora.

Broken Mirror: Inside a Chinese Marriage by Aurora Teo Mei Ling and Coylee Gamboa launched was held at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel, located in Sta. Cruz Manila. The last time John and I visited this area was in 1993. I couldn't say no to Mavs for this invite.

The story is about Aurora, a woman who defied Chinese tradition and divulged the secrets of an unhappy marriage. The book is now available in leading stores nationwide.I'll be writing more about this book once I receive a copy, hopefully signed by the authors.

La La Land

Rafael has been asking me to watch La La Land for over a week but I was so busy lately in preparation for my blog's 7th year anniversary so watching movies is not in my priority. Though I was hesiatnt to go on a date with any one, I couldn't say no to my son who assured that I'm definitely going to like the movie.

The verdict, I liked the movie! It was definitely worth my time! If you like romance and musical movies, and you're a fan of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, La La Land is a movie you shouldn't miss.

Dr. Cahilig of SSS Kalentong

According to news, SSS gets most complaints via President's Hotline 8888.

Pero dahil ang blog na ito is about sharing of joyful news and happenings, I'd like to focus sa katangi-tanging employee ng SSS.

Unboxing of Eximius Miracle Oil

This package was sent to me by Marilou Tan Lim Huang before Christmas but I was able to unbox just now because I didn't see it immediately for it was hidden under the Christmas tree.

What's inside? A lot of LeTouche Soap and Eximius Miracle Oil. Well, this is the first time I came across this oil and so I clicked the link, http://www.eximiusmiracleoilmarketing.com/,  and the website said, "Eximius Miracle Oil is a health supplement that can help people who are suffering from Cancer, HIV, Hepatitis, Leukemia, Gallstone, Diabetes and many more serious illnesses".

I read some of the testimonials, some said it cured their arthritis, varicose veins, and even blemishes on the face! I cannot attest yet about this product because I haven't tried it. Feel free to watch my Unboxing of Eximius Miracle Oil.

Center for Possibilities Presents Samantha Kaspar and the Manila Symphony Orchestra

The Center for Possibilities Presents Samantha Kaspar and the Manila Symphony Orchestra via a back-to-back event at the RCBC Plaza in Makati on January 28. It is aptly entitles, “Samantha” and “Soundtracks and Symphonies”. At 5:30 in the afternoon, the self-titled exhibit of 19-year-old Samantha Kaspar will open to the public. At 7:00 pm, the Manila Symphony Orchestra will take center stage.

The Art Auction will showcase around 40 artworks of Samantha Kaspar. Samantha, diagnosed with Autism when she was one and a half years old, is one of eight artists chosen to present their paintings on piña silk to be translated into clothing by featured designers for the fashion show, Patis Tesoro and Anthony Legarda. Master weaver India Legaspi is credited for teaching the artists the technique of piña silk painting. Some on fabric to be used as fashion accessories and others on canvas for wall hangings.  While half-Swiss, Samantha always tries to tap into her Filipino roots, coming up with Filipino-themed artworks. She will be promoting some of that local culture when she heads to the Philippine Center in New York for the Fashion Arts Autism Benefit (FAAB) on April 7.

“Samantha uses a wide variety of media for her work and we wanted to show the gamut of her abilities. She works primarily on piña silk using silk paints. She also uses acrylic paint on canvas sometimes. Samantha hopes to fund her trip with the proceeds of her auction. ” explains Samantha’s mother, Mitzi. “She has a consistent style with a lot of edges and lines, her artworks can be very linear. She also has this certain way of giving shapes to her images which aren’t necessarily realistic but are more cartoonish,” describes Samantha’s father, Martin.
The Manila Symphony Orchestra’s “Soundtracks and Symphonies” will be conducted by Prof. Arturo Molina and annotated by Jeffrey Solares. Included in their repertoire is a John Williams tribute as well as pieces from greats such as Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach.

The concert is for the benefit of Special Education (SPED) Centers that have been the focus of the Center for Possibilities’ recent efforts. To act as a venue for learning of indigent persons with special needs, each SPED Center is operated by a teacher trained in the SPED division of Reach International School.

The Sagada SPED Center has been up and running and will be enhanced with a series of livelihood and vocational programs that will be teaching skills for income-generating activities. “Caring for special kids is very taxing because it’s usually just a one-income household so we also need to help the parents improve their finances,” explains CFP founder, Dolores Cheng.

In Norzagaray, what they have right now is just the building itself. A fence, a water tank, and a playground are still needed. “We are also in the process of doing our due diligence by determining the number of special children in all the barangays relevant to Norzagaray. Next will be an orientation for all the parents within the community. We are subsequently planning for the provision of testing, diagnosis, and analysis for the children with special needs,” Cheng adds.

Enrolment in the SPED Centers is free so it helps alleviate the family’s cost of taking care of special children. If you would like to extend assistance, you may reach CFP at http://centerforpossibilities.asia/ or (02) 723-1242 / (0918) 888-1759.

“Samantha” and “Soundtracks and Symphonies” will be on January 28, 2016, 5:30pm at the Carlos P. Auditorium of the RCBC Plaza, Makati.

Acupuncture at Footzone Makati

Acupuncture is a key component of traditional Chinese medicine. It is most commonly used to treat pain. It is a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as qi or chi. It involves the insertion of extremely thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will re-balance.

There are many reasons why people undergo acupuncture, common reasons are to cure pain (back, neck, dentail pain, labor pain, menstrual cramps), fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis,  tension, headaches, migraine  postoperative nausea and vomiting.

Choosing an acupuncturist is the first step in having a successful acupuncture. I suggest, you ask trustworthy people for recommendations and check the acupuncturist's training and credentials. The risks of acupuncture are low if you go to a certified and competent  acupuncture doctors.  I'm currently under the care of  husband and wife, Dr. Jeff and Dr. Stephenie of Footzone.

Acupuncture at Footzone Makati is only P750.

Prior to treatment, be sure to inform your acupuncturist if you have bleeding disorders, if pregnant and have a pacemaker to avoid complications. Some types of acupuncture are thought to stimulate labor, which could result in a premature delivery while acupuncture that involves applying mild electrical pulses to the needles can interfere with a pacemaker's operation.

What to expect:

1. Consultation takes about 60 minutes (First day only. Next sessions takes shorter period)
Acupuncturist may ask you about your lifestyle, the parts of your body that are painful, the shape, coating and color of your tongue, th color of your face, the quality of the pulse in your wrist,
2.  Number of treatments will depend on the condition being treated and its severity. I was given two treatments a week. The doctors told me, I have to finish up to eight treatments.
3. No special preparation is required before acupuncture treatment.
4. Sterile, disposable needles to be used.
5. Insertion of needles takes about 15 minutes, depending on the condition being treated and its severity. Between five and 20 needles are used in a typical treatment.  Twenty needles are used in my case. Acupuncture needles are very thin, so insertion usually causes minor discomfort. You may feel a mild aching sensation when a needle reaches the correct depth.
6. Acupuncturist may gently move or twirl the needles after placement or apply heat or mild electrical pulses to the needles.
7. The needles remain in place for 30 minutes while you lie still and relax.
8. Pulling or removal of needles usually takes a minute or two and in most cases, there is usually no discomfort when the needles are removed.

Some say there are some possible side effects and complications, such as, soreness, minor bleeding or bruising at the needle sites but I didn't have any of those.

The benefits of acupuncture are sometimes difficult to measure, but in my case, I felt it even at the first session. I'm now able to sleep earlier and with longer hours as well. I'm calmer, feeling relaxed and energized. Not everyone though responds to acupuncture. If your symptoms don't begin to improve within a few weeks, acupuncture may not be right for you. Several studies, showed evidence that acupuncture works best in people who expect it to work. Ika nga sa pelikulang The Polar Express, "believe!".

I was privileged to meet and interview one of Dr. Jeff and Dr. Stephenie's patients, Ms Gigi Gatti.
Ms. Gigi attested that acupuncture has helped relieved her pain associated with menopause.

Rubik's cube has been around for decades. Although people know what it  is, not many know how to solve this puzzle.  They say if you solve the Rubik's cube then you're a fairly smart perosn. Top Five Emerging Market Trends for 2017

The year 2016 was a challenging year for real estate. Most of the year was rapt with uncertainty in the aftermath of two seismic events—Brexit and the U.S. elections.Anyone thinking of buying property became hesitant and decided that it was more prudent to wait until there is more clarity about how these unexpected events would affect the market. Buyers in Mexico were worried that a wall might be built sending the country into an economic recession. English investors were concerned that the inevitable departure from the EU would becataclysmic for the domestic property market.Analysts at Lamudi Philippines have spent some time in the lab crunching the stats, to come up with five trends they deem will shape real estate in 2017.

Steady as She GoesWith torpid real GDP growth across most of the emerging markets, governments are reluctant toraise interest rates. So where does that leave the market? In many cases due to difficulties securing construction financing and the cash required to purchase prize locations, there is now a situation where investors will look to avoid risk more so than usual. In brief, this will create a calm market, where real estate prices remain stable. While construction activity is expected to pick up pace in the second half of 2017, the start of the new year will be slower to gain momentum.Emerging Markets Are a Portfolio Essential

A smart move for the new year is to hedge your investments in Europe and the United States byincluding some higher risk real estate investment funds. In a world of unattractive global investment options going against the grain might be the ticket to prosperity. Despite the International Monetary Fund cutting its global growth forecast to 3.4 percent for 2017, there is hope in the developing world.Attack of the DronesUnmanned aerial vehicles or drones will be the big tech advancement in 2017. Real estate agents will look to gain an edge over competitors by providing flyovers of properties for exclusive properties and agents. Home-buyers and sellers will be able to use drones to their advantage. One caveat: certain flights will need the local tower’s permission along with a flight plan filed online. There is a real danger that drones could crash into commercial planes; considering the damage a bird can do this is something users need to bear in mind.

Optionality Is Back. As investors flee to relative safe havens; developers and investors are seeking solace in multi-use projects. Owners of versatile buildings can benefit from finding the maximum rent from the ideal tenant, whether that is through offices, retail outlets, or residential blocks. Flexible leases will become more common in a coworking type of arrangement.

Lamudi—the global property platform whose global HQ is in the trendy Kreuzberg area of Berlin, Germany, share their building with other Rocket Internet startups. This is an ideal way for owners to get the full rental income while companies can engage in knowledge sharing.Smart Home Tech and IoTIn 2016 we read a lot about the revolution that the Internet-of-Things (IoT) promised and 2017 may be the year for smart home technology to become more widespread. The problem is that there is a lot of competition, but no single company has managed to combine multiple appliances and apps into a seamless catch-all product. That could soon change with Google and Apple entering the market, giants of uniform user experiences. So brace yourself for smart houses that make life very, very easy for you.

Lamudi is a leading global property portal focusing exclusively on emerging markets. It offers sellers, buyers, landlords and renters a secure and easy-to-use platform to find or list propertiesonline. Lamudi was established in 2013 in Berlin, Germany and it is currently available in Latin America (Mexico, Colombia and Peru), Asia (Philippines, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka) and Middle East (Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates). Within fewer than three years, Lamudi has established its presence as a key online real estate marketplace in the countries where it is operating.

ABOUT MYPROPERTYEstablished in September 2010, MyProperty.ph is one of the leading Philippine real estate online and print brand that brings property buyers and sellers together. The website’s main offerings are listings of pre-selling properties and properties for sale and for rent. Both website and magazine also provide relevant and updated industry news and information for its clients and consumers. And with the release of its mobile version, finding or selling a home is made even easier.

The Passengers

The holidays jampacked schedule has finally got on me. I'm not feeling well today but my husband asked me to watch The Passengers, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt, Michael Sheen, Laurence Fishburne. Of course I said yes to John because I knew I can easily get that much needed rest inside the cinema. I usually fall asleep on a sci-fi movies. I feel that space movies are all the same (lol).  As it turned out, I didn't feel bored at all! I liked the movie! I'm a sucker for love stories, that's why. If you like love stories as well, watch The Passengers,

I particularly like the life quotes in the movie.

"Every Moment Counts"
"There is a reason they woke up"
"Nothing Happens By Accident"
“The drowning man will always will always try to take someone down with him.”
“The universe is not evil but it has a nasty sense of humor.”
“If you live an ordinary life all you will have is ordinary stories.”
“You can get hung up on where you’re at that you can’t enjoy where you are.”
"A life without purpose  is a wasted life."

Official Synopsis:
Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are two passengers onboard a spaceship transporting them to a new life on another planet. The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination.

Most of my dresses are in shades of black, blue, red and white so when #DenKax motif of light or pastel colors was announced it became my dilemma because I didn't have enough time to shop. I rummaged inside my messy and unorganized closet and found this cream long dress in chiffon fabric. I felt beautiful wearing it until the wedding coordinator asked me, "Ma'am, Ninang po ba kayo?". Hindi ko alam if overkill ang suot ko as a guest o mukha talaga akong Ninang sa kasal? I don't mind being ninang naman sa kasal. Actually, dalawa na ang mga inaanak ko sa kasal. 200+ naman ang inaanak ko sa binyag (parang Mayor lang ang peg!😉😊).

Then I found out later at the reception,
kaya naman pala ako tinanong if Ninang kasi andaming Ninang doon na ang suot ay cream...

DenKax Wedding

John and I rescheduled all our  other activities in favor of DenKax Wedding. Dennison and Kax are my co-bloggers. I knew Den for 7 years now and his more like a brother to me now. Since Den is Chinese he calls me Achi and I call him Syoti. While I met Kax 2 years ago via Den in a block screening movie for bloggers.

When I first saw Kax, I knew she's the one for Den. I'm not Madam Auring but I have this thing (some people call it a gift) where I see couples or sweethearts ending as husbands and wife.  I told Dennison about it and  made him promised that I will be invited on their wedding day.

Without further ado, here's the newly wedded couple, Mr. and Mrs. Den and Kax Uy!
