Acupuncture is a key component of traditional Chinese medicine. It is most commonly used to treat pain. It is a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as qi or chi. It involves the insertion of extremely thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture practitioners believe that your energy flow will re-balance.
There are many reasons why people undergo acupuncture, common reasons are to cure pain (back, neck, dentail pain, labor pain, menstrual cramps), fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, tension, headaches, migraine postoperative nausea and vomiting.
What to expect:
1. Consultation takes about 60 minutes (First day only. Next sessions takes shorter period)
Acupuncturist may ask you about your lifestyle, the parts of your body that are painful, the shape, coating and color of your tongue, th color of your face, the quality of the pulse in your wrist,
2. Number of treatments will depend on the condition being treated and its severity. I was given two treatments a week. The doctors told me, I have to finish up to eight treatments.
4. Sterile, disposable needles to be used.
5. Insertion of needles takes about 15 minutes, depending on the condition being treated and its severity. Between five and 20 needles are used in a typical treatment. Twenty needles are used in my case. Acupuncture needles are very thin, so insertion usually causes minor discomfort. You may feel a mild aching sensation when a needle reaches the correct depth.
6. Acupuncturist may gently move or twirl the needles after placement or apply heat or mild electrical pulses to the needles.
7. The needles remain in place for 30 minutes while you lie still and relax.
8. Pulling or removal of needles usually takes a minute or two and in most cases, there is usually no discomfort when the needles are removed.

Choosing an acupuncturist is the first step in having a successful acupuncture. I suggest, you ask trustworthy people for recommendations and check the acupuncturist's training and credentials. The risks of acupuncture are low if you go to a certified and competent acupuncture doctors. I'm currently under the care of husband and wife, Dr. Jeff and Dr. Stephenie of Footzone.
Prior to treatment, be sure to inform your acupuncturist if you have bleeding disorders, if pregnant and have a pacemaker to avoid complications. Some types of acupuncture are thought to stimulate labor, which could result in a premature delivery while acupuncture that involves applying mild electrical pulses to the needles can interfere with a pacemaker's operation.
Acupuncture at Footzone Makati is only P750.

Some say there are some possible side effects and complications, such as, soreness, minor bleeding or bruising at the needle sites but I didn't have any of those.
The benefits of acupuncture are sometimes difficult to measure, but in my case, I felt it even at the first session. I'm now able to sleep earlier and with longer hours as well. I'm calmer, feeling relaxed and energized. Not everyone though responds to acupuncture. If your symptoms don't begin to improve within a few weeks, acupuncture may not be right for you. Several studies, showed evidence that acupuncture works best in people who expect it to work. Ika nga sa pelikulang The Polar Express, "believe!".
I was privileged to meet and interview one of Dr. Jeff and Dr. Stephenie's patients, Ms Gigi Gatti.
Ms. Gigi attested that acupuncture has helped relieved her pain associated with menopause.
