Olarte Family

The #Mendiolables first visit to the residence of Olarte Family was purely for coverage of Mrs. Honey Olarte's doll collection.  I brought my sister Liz and her family for our recent visit with Olarte Family. It's not just about the dolls any longer. It was already like a visit to relatives or friends who gladly welcomed us.

I am looking forward to the doll museum that they will be building soon. It is my pride and honor to have been the first to feature the dolls and the Olarte family.

Promod Boots

Percia and I met last June of 2016 when we were both voted as officers for Parent-Teachers Association. She has a Grade 10 son, while my twin kids are in 8th grade.

I noticed that every time we have a meeting, Percia would wear boots. I figured she likes boots a lot so when I saw this Promod boots on sale (from P5,495 down to P300), I posted a video in Facebook for her.

This video turned viral as FBF (Facebook Friends) from here and abroad asked me to buy one for them. I wish I have so much money to get all of them a pair.

Mall of Korea

Mall of Korea run a contest from different blogs wherein winners will receive spending gift certificates worth P1,500 .  I won from Leomy's blog contest and as soon as the prize was ready, I went at Mall of Korea.  I was given 5 coupons in 300 denominations each instead of P1,500 gift certificates. I was supposed to buy my daughter a P1,900 denim pants but the cashier said I can only use one coupon per transaction which would mean I have to add P1,600 instead of just P400. Plus, the coupons cannot be used for sale items! What the fudge!

I called on for the manager but he said it is their policy even if I told him it wasn't specified in the contest rules. Since I didn't see any positive response from the manager, my family and I just left Mall of Korea. I threw the coupons in the bin and I vowed never to go back at Mall of Korea again. It was such a waste of time, gas and effort because their policies didn't coincide with the contest rules and conditions stated at the blogs who ran the contest.

Last week after covering the Grand Launch of Success Mall I saw Mall of Korea just in front of PBA Cafe. It had a big sign that said Sale. Out of curiosity, Donna, Kim, Kib and I went in.

I posted this video in my FB account and the next day, friends trooped to Mall of Korea to buy from this inconsiderate store. Even Carie, who's based in USA asked her sister Bing to buy clothes for her.

Benefits of Sleepovers

I used to spend sleepovers in my cousins' (both in Mama and Papa's side) place when I was a kid. I enjoyed each moment when my kids ask to spend the night away from home or if they want a friend to spend the night in our home, John and I allow them to.

Unlike before where kids just play, watch television and sleep, kids now are more hands on. They like helping around the just like Juancho's frinds, Gavin and Kento.

Benefits of Sleepovers

1. Children successfully gain independence and enhance self-esteem.

2. Kids experience new activities, eat different foods and try different things they don't do at their own home. My son doesn't eat ribs and mami (noodles) but when he tasted it at Gavin's house,  , Juan realized how much he he likes it now.

3. Kids will get to learn how to behave in someone else’s house, hence it is a good practice for you to know if you kid is practcing the basic manners such as saying please, excuse me and thank you.

4. Children (as well as parents) will have a chance to unwind and relax if they spend the night away from home.

5. Children will make happy memories of their childhood. Family is the most important unit for a child but at some point, a child needs to build relationships with friends with whom he or she will find trust and fun bonding time.

Ang Huling Chacha ni Anita

Last weeks schedule was kind of tight. I ahd three events to attend but I had to let go of the first one and came late on the last event because I couldn't let an opportubity to to support my friend star for Ang Huling Chacha ni Anita special screening at Megamall.

It was a special night as Lyn and I got to bond again after a long time of being busy in our respective lives.

Ang Huling Cha-Cha ni Anita is a by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo, which tackles the coming of age and the coming out of the main character Anita. Teenage pregnancy, abortion and rural life are other topics shown in this film.

Teri Malvar portrayed the 13-year-old Anita, who portaryed the role without ease, considering she's a new comer.  She is the only daughter of Lolita (Lui Manansala), a Santa Clara devotee whose only desire for Anita is that she grows up to be a beauty queen. Anita, however, has desires more pressing than her mother's.  (Angel Aquino plays Pilar, who is seen in the town as an unwanted local because she left her sick father just to work abroad. Some twists unfolds in the end, of course as it always do in all films.

Tips on How to Pull Off Oversized Styles

Even if I'm only 5'0 feet in height, I'm fond of wearing oversized clothes. If you are petite like me, Here are my tips on how to full off oversized styles:

1. Wear only one oversized item at a time. For example, if you want to wear an  oversized top balance them with slim fitting bottoms.

2.  Showing some arm, ankle, or neckline when wearing an oversized item

3. Be sure to wear petite-friendly length for an oversized coats and always keep the shirt underneath (like dress or shirt) fitted.

4.  wearing skinny jeans and a low profile t-shirt,

5.  Oversized styles may not be the most flattering on a short frame, but always remember to embrace your fashion style and wear items you enjoy.

Fashion for me is intensely personal. No one can dictate whether you look good or lousy.  So to all moms over 40 like me, enjoy and embrace your uniqe fashion sense and let no one make you feel  as though you are a trying hard model. Anyway it is not the clothes, nor the shoes and bags that will define who you are. It is your kindness, your confidence, your cheerfulness, your happy disposition, your attitude as a whole that will make your FB friends click the like button for your OOTD.  Akala nyo seryoso no! (Winking both chinky eyes).

Success Mall Grand Launch

Success Mall was launched at the PBS Cafe in Metrowalk. It was attended by no less than its founder, Success Coach John Calub and his partnerts and associates. A lot of expectators, media,  and guests were there to support and become a member of this newest online selling community.

Success Mall (www.successmall.biz), the country’s first “WORD-OF-MOUSE” shopping community is a hybrid online marketplace and deal website that offers an array of local and international products and services at huge discounted prices with “FREE” delivery directly to your house.  But unlike other online shopping websites, Success Mall gives Filipinos an opportunity to start their own e-commerce business from home without the need to shell out any capital.  Simply register for a free account, shop at the website regularly and recommend the products and services to family members and friends through your social networks like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.  Each time your referred community of shoppers buys at Success Mall, you and the referrers start sharing the earned rebate points that can be withdrawn in cash via banks all over the world through the Success Mall VISA debit card. Or you can use the same accumulated cash rebates to purchase again, which means that your own shopping expenses automatically get covered.

How does the website accomplish this?  Every new person that signs up in Success Mall is given a unique affiliate link that you simply share through social networks and SuccessMall’s affiliate system tracks exactly who becomes part of the community of shoppers under your wing.  After you have successfully invited them to register for free under your affiliate account, you’ll start earning cash rebates immediately from every purchase and repeat purchases of products and services of these people who are tagged under you. What this means to you is that you simply encourage other people to sign-up only once and you’ll earn from their repeat purchases for the rest of your life even while you’re sleeping!

We asked Success Mall founder John Calub how he came up with this billion dollar idea? According to Success Coach John Calub, “In my more than 10 years of teaching financial literacy and entrepreneurship workshops across the country and around the globe, I often teach that wealthy people earn through “PASSIVE INCOME” (i.e. income without working) as opposed to “ACTIVE INCOME”, the income of the poor.  Through SuccessMall, we can now offer an opportunity for Filipinos around the globe to start their own e-commerce business without capital, which at the same time gives them another source of passive income.”

On the other end, John Calub humbly shares “part of our company’s vision is not only to help consumers buy products affordably online and earn from referrals, Success Mall was created to help small and medium scale entrepreneurs (SME’s) promote their brand and sell their products to a global market faster, 24-hours a day,  through free “word-of-mouse” marketing.”

Our next question to John, what is the difference between “word-of-mouth” and “word-of-mouse” marketing?  “According to a survey by Nielsen, 91 percent of Filipinos trust “word-of-mouth” product and service recommendations by known family members and friends.  That’s really the key now to effective marketing. But with the rise of Internet marketing, it’s now less talk and more typing and sharing online through social networks. Thus we are using “word-of-mouse” marketing, which can easily allow us to make SuccessMall and all its products and services go viral to a global market in lightning like speed and in a more cost-effective way.  In short, today brands are no longer what companies say it is.  It is what consumers tell each other it is on the Internet.

Who is the team behind this very exciting Internet start-up?  John Calub assembled a team of seasoned entrepreneurs who run several very profitable businesses already.  John exclaims, “I believe that more than just financial capital, a strong advisory board is what makes or breaks any start-up. Our board of directors is composed of myself, Ms. Sarah Deloraya and Claudia Cui (Owners SPD Job Contracting and Consultancy Services) Attorney Boyet Tabao (Managing Partner of Westwood Law), Heddy Tabao (President, Klassic Marketing), Rowena Paragas (President of NYD International Placement Agency) and Michael Maranan (President of Windfreight Express Total Logistics, Incorporated).  We also have on our team millennial Internet marketing genius Carl Ocab (www.carlocab.com), whose success story was recently featured as part of the cover story of Forbes Asia magazine, as our global ambassador.

For merchants interested in getting their products and services, you may contact the merchant partnership department of Success Mall by calling 576-4079 or visit the merchant inquiry section at www.successmall.biz.

For those wanting to explore and engage in the profitable world of e-commerce, come over to the grand launching of Success Mall this June 24, 2017 (Saturday), 5 pm at the PBA Café, 2nd Floor, Metrowalk Complex, Meralco Avenue, Pasig City.  The grand launching shall be complemented by the launch of the “Search For Mr. and Ms. Internet 2017” a contest for millennial digital influencers who will eventually become ambassadors of Success Mall.  The evet will feature a technology fashion show featuring 20 gorgeous millenial male and female models plus performances from bands and other artists.  For updates, like us in Facebook at  www.facebook.com/successmallph.  Are you ready to shop, share and earn? Log-on to www.successmall.biz/free and start your own e-commerce business for free today!

SM Home kicks off a year long campaign to inspire you to Complete your Home

Press Release

SM Home recently revealed a series of tastefully beautiful interior design vignettes styled by some of the most creative talents in the Philippines.  Located in the SM Home section at The SM Store in Makati, the vignettes are a fitting grand launch for what will be a yearlong series of events from SM Home that will inspire you to, as the brand’s new tagline urges, “Complete your Home with SM Home.”

With an unbeatable reputation for offering the widest range of tasteful, quality home products at the best prices, this year SM Home raises the bar for home stores again.  “As great as it is to offer the widest range of home items, it in no way guarantees that our customers walk out of our stores with a clear idea of how they want to Complete their Homes, or even what to do with the items they have just purchased,” shares SM Home AVP for Marketing, Tom Castañeda.

“There is so much more to making a space functional and beautiful than just choosing and buying great individual items.  How items blend together and contribute to the aesthetics or the function of a space are just as important, if not more,” continues Tom “That is why this year, we’d like to help our customers get their creative juices flowing by exposing them to a lot of great design, and sharing practical design tips with them.”

Done in the fashionable Scandi-chic style, and almost exclusively with items available at SM Home, the vignettes are an eye-opening showcase of what is possible to do with even the simplest and most inexpensive items in the store, when one adds the elements of cohesion, balance, function, and a bit of creative flare.  For the vignettes, the designers were asked to design for a power couple between the ages of 28-34, who love travel, and photography, and who lead very active lives.

The dining room is done in the crisp, clean, deceptively spartan lines typical of Scandi-chic, a well thought out use of color and contrast creates a warm and cozy feel.  Designed by Nina Santamaria of Grupo Santamaria, the dining room is a perfect example of seemingly plain looking items coming together to create a beautiful, functional and inviting space.

Leaning towards the edgy side of modern, the living room vignette of Misty Floro and Pai Edles of Morfosis plays with unconventional furniture layouts, and uses accents such as an area rug to define space.  “The objective is to highlight the versatility of the living room and the countless possibilities a living room presents for a designer,” shares Misty Floro.  An interesting highlight of the space is the accent wall, which serves as an optical illusion that presents a different view from every angle.

Iriss Mangio of ILM Interiors designed the home office space in a style that was quite eclectic, combining bohemian elements, with retro-objects, while managing to make the space look both cohesive and new.  Iriss’ vision of a couple’s home office is a functional room that doubles as a relaxing space to just hang out in.  These seemingly contrasting ideas are achieved with the well thought out positioning of large functional pieces, and strategic arrangement of plants and accessories.

Angelo Siochi’s vignette of the couples’ bedroom is intimate, relaxing and a great canvas for adding personal touches.  Colors and accents, and décor combine for a room that is conducive to relaxation, but Angelo has provided ample space on shelves, walls and tables for the couple to add their personal touches.  “A designer’s job in designing a bedroom in not just to make a beautiful space, but to allow clients to personalize,” explains Angelo.

In a departure from typical showhouses, the kitchen space was styled by renowned pastry chef Miko Aspiras, in partnership with a local designer who helped bring his vision to life.  “It may not be so with other rooms, but in a kitchen form needs to follow function all the time, a beautiful space is worthless unless it performs its function well.  This is more true of a kitchen than any other space in a home,” explains Tom, “To create a great working kitchen requires extensive knowledge of how food is prepared, as well as experience in working in kitchens.  Pastries are particularly process intensive and precise, so Chef Miko really stood out as a logical choice,” he adds.

The designers were on hand for the grand launch of the vignettes, discussing their vision for the spaces, sharing their favorite items from SM Home, and sharing some very useful tips with the exhibit’s first guests.

Each designer selected items from SM Home as featured items, these items available at most SM Home branches through the month of July, while the vignettes are open for viewing at the SM Home Makati branch until July 31.

The vignettes are just the first of many similar activities that SM Home has planned for the year.
“SM Home wants to be more than a source for our customers,” shares Tom. “We want to be their partner in selecting the perfect pieces for their homes. And we hope to do that throughout the year with special events at our stores in Metro Manila, as well as key branches nationwide.”

The company started out as SM Home Center in 1975. As SM preeminently grew to be the largest chain of department stores in the Philippines, Home Center likewise received an overwhelming response from its customers. Prompted by the need to create a separate team to manage and control its operations, it was then recognized as an affiliate of SM on April 6, 1992, officially named as Homeworld Shopping Corporation. Come 2014, due to emerging trends where Homeworld felt the need of leverage for its overall identity, it was re-branded as SM Home on August 1.
Today, SM Home is found in all SM department stores all over the country.

Weber and True Value Grilling Event at ATC

I've always find grilling the hardest kind of cooking so I just delegate it to my husband. Earlier today at Alabang Town Center, Chef Nicholas Pang from Malaysia showed us how fun, flexible and easy it is to grill with the help of Weber.  The event was in collaboration with True Value which allowed customers to experience quality and premium grills and grilling accessories from Weber. Hands-on grilling were enjoyed by volunteer guests. And the food tasting was of course the highlight of the event!

CREATION OF THE WORLD’S FAVORITE GRILL

The birth of the world’s first kettle grill was the first stepping stone that started Weber’s journey to success. Weber grill’s humble beginnings can be traced back to 1952 in USA, the land where the tradition of barbecuing flourishes. At first, only a few heads have turned for the new invention; but over time, the Weber Grill have crossed borders and conquered the world. The rest is history. George Stephen was a young family man living in Palatine, Illinois. During the day, George works in a marine buoy factory, Weber Bros. Metal Works, but what he really loves to do was grilling at home. Nothing more makes him tick than finding new and exciting ways to share and celebrate barbecue experiences for his family and friends. Having mastered all the ways, tips and tricks with the ordinary grill, along with the unhelpful irrepressible flare-ups, George was left with no choice. He knew that the only answer is to have his own invention. While at work, George split up one of the ocean buoys into two and thus, the first kettle grill was born. George Stephen’s unfamiliar invention of barbecuing with a lid led the masses to surprise and amusement. However, as soon as they tasted the food from the new grill, they were extremely satisfied. George Stephen had just given the world his gift, a new-to-the-worldinnovationwhich forever transformedhow barbecuing was made.

GET YOUR GRILL ON: WEBER GRILLS ARE NOW ON TRUE VALUE!

The art of grilling has always been a far-fetched goal for us Pinoys who love “inihaw” foods. This 2017, Filipino grillers and self-proclaimed food scientists can now rejoice, as True Value will be the premium dealer for the much awaited household brand for barbecue grills, Weber. The global innovation brand will finally re-enter the Philippine market to grace every home with its latest state-of-the-art grilling equipment. Ready your aprons and keep those spatulas on hand, as the country is up for a grilling revolutioncoming its way!
What’s Grillin’ Good-lookin? Grilling has been a common and widely used practice in the US, whenever there is a gathering coming up or when they just simply crave mouthwatering grilled steaks. However, one does not simply forget Filipinos’ love for grilled foods - from simple barbecues, kebabs in parties and family outings to gigantic broiled burgers and sizzling steaks in malls. But what if we told you that you can finally do the grillingat your own home?
Something’s Cookin’ at True Value Every outdoor cooking lover is always on the hunt for the perfect, quality grill. Well, all the waiting and searching are finally over as the US power brand is now exclusively available at True Value stores. Now, you can visit True Value to see an extensive collection of high quality Weber grills, tools and accessories to maximize and revolutionize your very own grilling experience – at the convenience of your home. While our taste buds can never resist the goodness that comes from the hot grill, Filipinos have not yet considered the wonder of grilling – which is perhaps due to insufficient quality grills and paraphernalia in the market. Thus, the launch of the Weber grills is certainly a treat for all those who love cooking, introducing another exciting food prep method that they can personally try at their homes. What separates Weber grills from the rest is that it offers simple yet effective grilling solutions and systems that makes a beginner, one good griller. This will definitely cause a stir in our lifestyle and spark a new trend in the Food retail industry. Now head over to True Value and see the newest and latest Weber grills from the US; you’ll surely discover one that fits your home, lifestyle and needs. Various grilling basics ranging from barbecue tools, cookware, and grill accessories to smoking accessories and cleaning paraphernalia are also widely available in True Value stores, so be sure to make a visit and complete all the essentials for the ultimate grilling experience! Get your Weber now!

About Weber - Much More Than A Grill

It all began with a passionate barbecue enthusiast named George Stephen, who invented the world's first kettle grill in 1952 – a grill that ended up changing the barbecue culture throughout the world. He did not do it in order to enrapture the whole world – he simply wanted to find a way to barbecue better steak for his family and friends. And he succeeded! That is now over 60 years ago.

"We are not metal benders – we are in the entertainment business". That brief sentence sums up Weber. For us, a grill is much more than a grill – it is a focal point for unforgettable experiences. This was the philosophy George Stephen founded Weber on... it is the philosophy that has revolutionised the world of barbecuing... and it is the philosophy that still permeates Weber today.

Chevrolet Lauched as Part of SM Supermalls Home of Global Brands

Yesterday at the Atrium of SM Mall of Asia, Chevrolet lauched as part of SM Supermalls "Home of Global Brands.

The event was attended by SM Supermalls Senior Vice President for Marketing Jonjon San Agustin, Ms. Lyn Buena, Chevrolet Senior Vice President for Marketing and Communication Services, Perkin twins (Chevrolet's brand ambassadors) media, bloggers and shoppers of the mall.

With a Retro Diner Themed vibe, the venue gave that feel good atmosphere  with  vintage Chevrolet cars sprawled for guests and shoppers to see the beauty of Chevy depicted in timeless American movies.

Early last month, SM Supermalls announced many exciting activities as it forges partnership with many of the world’s well-known brands to over 30 malls nationwide. SM's Father's Day celebration this weekend, dads and their families can join in the car-a-oke sessions and activity booths for a chance to snag freebies and amazing deals.

Despicable Me 3

Despite the scare of the recent burning and shooting incident at Resorts World, we, the #Mendiolables, watched Despicable Me 3 at Cinema 3 last night.

Thanks to Ms. Mys of PMCM, and their partner and sponsors (When in Manila, TCL, Icon Hotel, Hersheys, Kettle Korn) for accommodating us this fun and enjoyable movie!

So what can I say about Despicable Me 3?  This one and a half hours of colorful, cutesy, funny, silly film may never be as exciting as the original Despicable Me, it still is worth your money and time specially if you're an 80s baby. You will definitely relate to the songs, it might event make you tap your fit while the movie is playing. I love this third offering because of its twist, Gru has a twin brother named Drew! As a mom of twin kids, I can relate on the love-hate-love relationship of twins Gru and Drew.

Without a doubt, yes,  Despicable Me 3 is a MUST SEE MOVIE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY! I wrote it in all caps so you better watch it.

Rating: PG (for action and rude humor)
Runtime: 90 minutes

There maybe many social media flatforms in knowing what’s happening in the world but admittedly, Twitter provides the faster, data-friendly and more accessible when it comes to mobile web experience.

The latest version of Twitter Lite adds Poll creation and safety features to block, mute and report, alongside other key features of Twitter on the mobile web experience. SUCCESS MALL by SUCCESS COACH JOHN CALUB

I have attended a lot of prescon for new online shops but I've never been interested in opening an account until I attended earlier today SUCCESS MALL by SUCCESS COACH JOHN CALUB. Unlike other online shops where you just spend shopping, Success Mall allows shoppers to earn. It's like having a business minus the capital.

Cotton Candy

I was never a fan of cotton candy when I was a kid because I get tonsillitis every time I had it. Now at 43, I'm a fan though still not eating it. I like how they make it with intricate designs.

Last week as I wait for my husband to finish his toy shopping I had time to chat and watched how Abby and Jeff of Candy Up in Robinsons Manila make beautiful cotton candy. Profound respect and admiration for Jeff and Abby dedication of this art! Salamat mga kapatid for accommodating my short interview.

Cotton candy (also known as fairy floss in Australia, candy floss in the UK and New Zealand) is a form of spun sugar. According to the New York Times, the confection "is almost 99.999 percent sugar, with dashes of flavoring and food coloring.

History:

Maple-flavored cotton candy at the cabane à sucre (sugar shack), Pakenham, Canada
There are several claims for the origin of cotton candy, with some sources tracing it to a form of spun sugar found in Europe in the 19th century. At that time, spun sugar was an expensive, labor-intensive endeavor and was not generally available to the average person.[7] Others suggest versions of spun sugar originated in Italy as early as the 15th century.[8]

Machine-spun cotton candy was invented in 1897 by the dentist William Morrison and confectioner John C. Wharton and first introduced to a wide audience at the 1904 World's Fair as "Fairy Floss"[9] with great success, selling 68,655 boxes at 25¢ per box (equivalent to $7 per box today). Joseph Lascaux, a dentist from New Orleans, Louisiana, invented a similar cotton candy machine in 1921. In fact, the Lascaux patent named the sweet confection “cotton candy” and the "fairy floss" name faded away, although it retains this name in Australia.[10][11] In the 1970s an automatic cotton candy machine was created which made the product and packaged it. This made it easier to produce and available to sell at carnivals, fairs, and stores in the 1970s and on. (Source: Wikipedia)

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

It's a long weekend but my family didn't plan for an out-of-town trip because we just finishes summer vacation. With plenty of time in our hands, movie marathon is on starting with Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona is a 2008 film about two girlfriends on a summer holiday in Spain who become enamored with the same painter, unaware that his ex-wife, with whom he has a tempestuous relationship, is about to re-enter the picture.

The scenery of the film made me want to live in Barcelona.

I like some of the qoutes that the characters said in the movie:

"Life is short. Life is dull. Life is full of pain. And this is a chance for something special."
Juan Antonio:

"We are meant for each other and not meant for each other. It's a contradiction."
Juan Antonio:

"Only unfulfilled love can be romantic."
