Occasions of Joy's 8th Year Anniversary

I quietly celebrated Occasions of Joy's 8th Year Anniversary by posting a photo on IG, FB and Twitter taken at California Pizza Kitchen Shangri-La branch. I originally wanted to have an intimate thanksgiving lunch with blogger friends close to my heart but all of them had prior engagements.

I also planned an outreach at Little Angels Home in Cavite on this day but Sister Monica said to move it on the 25th because most of the kids are in school on a weekday.

Although my plans didn't materialize, I am happy that this blog have reached this far.

Mary Kay® Concealer, CC Cream and Brightening Stick

Rafael has many blemishes from his previous acne. It actually does not bother him much but because he needed to look really good at Mr. and Ms. MandSci Finals Night, I used Mary Kay Concealer, CC Cream and Brightening Stick that my sister Liz and brother Jubert gave me last 2016 Christmas.

The effect is really nice! Flawless in an instant. Plus, I didn't have to worry about El's sensitive skin because Mary Kay® products are not only to look good, but also good on all types of skin. Mary Kay® Mary Kay® Concealer, CC Cream and Brightening Stick is infused with antioxidants to help protect skin.

If you want to buy or simply test Mary Kay® products, contact my sister at https://www.facebook.com/liz.alberto1.

Mr. and Ms. MandSci 2018

Although I'm okay for my son Rafael to join Mr. and Ms. MandSci 2018, I had ambivalent feelings  because I wanted him to join when his twin sister is ready to join. I wanted them both up in the stage at the same time for I find it really cute to just see them there.  Since El was personally chosen by Mr. Patron and Gimeno to represent 9-Gamma, I couldn't refuse because both teachers are among the nicest in school.

Long story short, El made it to the first step, chosen one among the 32 male students of City of Mandaluyong Science High School. Then moved on to Top 8. My son did not win the contest but what's important is to enjoy the experience, win or lose".

Congratulations not just to the winners but the whole crew who made Mr. and Ms. MandSci 2018 a successful one.

Before I end this post, just a few reminders that I hope the organizers will take note of. Program must start on schedule.

My family and I were there as early as 430pm. My husband was seating at that same chair since 5pm. Nag restroom sya pandalian at around 630pm, pag balik nya sa same seat sinabi sa kanya ng isang SSG Officer na reserved seat daw. Walang nakalagay na RESERVED doon since 430pm. Pagbalik nya may nakalagay na at ayaw ng paupuin ang husband ko ng SSG officer dahil uupo ang boyfreind ng isang judge. My friend, who is a mother of a former Batang MandSci can attest to this because she was there, she witnessed what happened. She felt disappointed with how that SSG Officer talked to my husband kasi hindi daw magalang ang pagkakasabi sa asawa ko. Ni hindi nag apologize ang SSG officer na yun. Ganito ba ang virtues ng Batang MandSci? My husband didn't say anything about the incident, it was my friend who told me this story.  I hope the SSG will look into this incident. I have been an active parent of two MandSci students for 3 years, nakaka disappoint lang na gawin iyon sa husband ko because we were there very early. Kung may nakalagay na RESERVED doon sa upuan na yun hindi uupo ang asawa ko doon because he is a man who follow rules and regulations. Buti na lang likas na mabait ang aking kabiyak at di nag react.

John and I are thinking of buying a condominium as an investment and as a future gift for our children.  We've been visiting places since November to check out model units and other amenities but we still haven't found the right condo for us.

Thanks to Mich SMDC Eats invite, I was able to see three SM Development Corporation properties, namely Light Residences in Mandaluyong, Grace Residences in Taguig and Jazz Residences in Makati. Although, I didn't get to see the model unit, at least I got to see its location and neighboring establishments. Plus, I got to taste hidden treasures where you can eat delicious and satisfying food from the three properties mentioned above.

Our first stop was at Light Mall where we tasted tacos, burritos and more at The Art of Tacos. Then we proceeded at Eggettes and Company for Hong Kong style waffle with a twist.

Second stop was in Grace Mall where we had to-die-for sisig, crispy pata and steak at Hot Kitchen by Fresh Options.

Last, but certainly not the least, is at Jazz Mall. We capped the night at After All Bar and Grill where we tasted sisig, seafood teriyaki (I super like it!), different kinds of cocktails and coffee, oh my coffee!

As I always do, I keep the writings short and focus more on videos. Feel free to watch our SMDC Eats, a food crawl.

Grade 9 MandSci Field Day Performance.

My daughter Julia is an academic achiever. She does not asks for a lot of things, except for concert tickets of popular Korean male groups. I also know when she wants me badly in school like when she texted, "Mom, the field demostration is about to start but we are the last group". I know that she wanted me to see them perform. Luckily I made it on time to record Grade 9 MandSci Field Day Performance.

Sharing this Grade 9 MandSci field day performance to the parents who were not able to see their respective kids on this special day.

Gary Valenciano

February is such a busy month for me because of a number of occasions important in my life, namely Juancho's birthday on the 8th, Valentine' day on the 14th, this blog's anniversary on the 20th. I just couldn't say no to Michelle and Ralph Huertas invite because they are amongst the nicest PR couple I know. I will also not forget to mention, the e-invite had Gary Valenciano's photo on it so I secretly hoped he'll be there. Although I've seen a lot of his concerts, it was in 2010 when I first interviewed him at Direk Freddie Santos Blog Launch.

Gary Valenciano and Kiana Valenciano for Panasonic Air-Conditioners

Gary Valenciano and his daughter Kiana graced Panasonic Air-Conditioners evet at The New World Hotel as Brand Ambassadors of the brand.   “These new models of Panasonic air-conditioners really make homes comfortable and care for the people living in it. It is important for us to stay healthy so that we can continue to take care of our family,” shares Gary Valenciano, endorser of Panasonic Appliances.

"For the past 100 years, it has always been Panasonic’s intention to create technological innovations, which would make lives better; and these new air-con models, show how we stay true to that commitment.” says Shinichi Hayashi, president of Panasonic Manufacturing Philippines Corporation (PMPC).

The window type is the choice for easy installation, wherein you could simply slide the unit into the air-con provision. Panasonic, being the no.1 Inverter air-con brand in the Philippines, creates another breakthrough product – the new inverter Window-type Air-Conditioner. With this, you can get Pure Energy savings with exceptional cooling performance.  Some special features that makes Panasonic Inverter different from other brands are Dual-Fan motor and DC Compressor with the wide range of speed.

Get additional energy savings while sleeping comfortably using the Sleep mode.  This feature increases the temperature for the first two hours after reaching the set temperature and turns-off base on the number of hours you have set. You can also achieve 3x faster cooling using the Powerful mode because it can speed up the rotation of the compressor higher than the maximum speed of normal operation.
And to address healthy living, this model features an anti-bacterial filter that removes up to 99% of airborne particles like bacteria, viruses and allergens. Panasonic Inverter Window-type Air-con uses an ozone-friendly refrigerant. Variants are 1.0 and 1.5 hp.

These new Panasonic split-type air-conditioners combine powerful innovations inside every unit. It features Panasonic’s most advanced purification system – the Nanoe Technology, which deodorizes, inhibits bacteria and viruses, remove dust and purifies your room even though cooling function is turned off.  What is nanoe? – It is the nano-sized electrostatic atomized water particles that are rich in OH radicals. It is generated from moisture in the air that contains highly reactive components know as hydroxyl (OH) radicals.  Nanoe Technology is made with the most effective combined power of Nanoe-X and Nanoe-G. Nanoe-X deodorizes the living space from unpleasant odors such as cigarette smell, pet odor, sweat, damp smell, and BBQ smell. It also inhibits the growth of allergens, bacteria, and viruses to keep the air fresh and clean. Nanoe-G purification removes air pollutants that are so small like P.M. 2.5 which could easily enter our lings and pose potential health risks. This works by releasing negative ions that capture airborne particles. These are brought back to the air filter for deactivation. Aside from assuring clean air for fresher and cleaner living space, the new model also has healthy airflow using Sky Wing – the unique top flap design for better comfort. Lastly, this new model has Panasonic’s inverter technology that creates greater efficiency for better energy savings.

Panasonic, 100 years of Adapting to Changing Times

Panasonic Philippine’s golden years in the country has proven the stability of the brand that the Filipinos has continually embraced.  Much to the pride of its Japanese principal-Panasonic Corporation, which was built century ago;  100 years of living to its global slogan “A Better Life, A better World”.  Though its company’s diversity and innovations, Panasonic Corporation is relishing its global status and engaging all curves of oncoming disruptions in the industry. This very reason is what elevated the company to a position that the world adore.  From its humble beginnings that started from the desire to help fueled the fire of inspiration. Panasonic has since made housework easier, kept food fresh and delicious, allowed us to live well in comfortable spaces, let us bring home the thrill of entertainment, kept our family home clean, let us simplify everyday beauty, make delicious meals happen and paved the way to preserve beautiful memories.  Panasonic have constantly invested in research and development to make the best even better. Thus, the reason they are enjoying a resounding success.

Panasonic Philippines and the Philippine Market
Panasonic Manufacturing Philippines Corporation (PMPC) bearing the torch from Panasonic Corporation has since moved forward stronger from its previous year. PMPC has continually help boost Philippine economy by producing outstanding Japan quality refrigerators, electric fans, washing machines, and air-conditioners in the provinces of Rizal and Laguna provides hundreds of employment opportunities to Filipinos.

Japan Quality Air-Conditioners
In continuing its 100 years of reliability, Panasonic recently launched new models of air-conditioners that provide total air solutions to its consumers. Panasonic’s new window-type air-con boast of inverter technology and practical features such as sleep mode, powerful mode,  and anti-bacterial core filter.  The new Panasonic split-type air-conditioner models, on the other hand, combine powerful innovations inside its nanoe technology, which deodorizes, inhibits bacteria and viruses, and removes dust.  Another innovation is the Econavi technology which detects human absence in the room, changes in human movements and changes in activity levels and adjust cooling power accordingly to prevent energy waste.  Adapting to changing times, Panasonic reiterates that the intentions founded 100 years ago, will continue to stay on as a second century dawns.

Joy's Tipid Tips

Lately I've been vlogging a lot about how to save money this 2018 via Joy's Tipid Tips. It made this post very special because this tipid tip is shared by my BDJ sister Tin Chua.

Tin and I met three years ago at a BDJ event and we instantly clicked. Though we only communicate via FB or IG, the bond stays strong.

I'm so happy that we got to have a quick lunch date at Figaro, where Tin shared her Buy 1 Take 1 voucher at Figaro. She bought it at Great Ideas for only P399.

For 2 kinds of salad and 2 drinks, Tin and I only paid less than P600. We split the bill, and we paid each at P285. Pwede na!

Mr. Aquinas 2018

After winning Mr. United Nations last year, Juancho immediately told me he's joining Mr. Aquinas 2018. I declined as fast as I can convincing my son that it's enough because he already won in UN.

Come January 2018, he said he was chosen to represent his class in Mr. Aquinas 2018. Only to find out from his adviser, Ms. Eve that he actually volunteered.  I basically didn't want him to join because part of the contest is to sell tickets. Juan assured me that he's only aiming for Mr. Talent and that I do not have to shell out a lot of money to win.

I was disppointed when he didn't win Mr. Talent, instead we went home with Juan's two trophies, Mr Photogenic and Mr. Aquinas 2018.

Malakas ang loob ng anak kong ito. Sali ng sali. Di umuurong sa laban. Hahaha!

You know how when kids, specially noys, stay at home or go to a friend's home - they are glued on playing gadgets. For Juan's 12th birthday, we let them have fun by playing Twister. Nag enjoy na sila, pinagpawisan pa sila.

Twister is a game of physical skill, produced by Milton Bradley Company and Winning Moves, that has been inducted into the American National Toy Hall of Fame. It is played on a large plastic mat that is spread on the floor or ground. The mat has six rows of large colored circles on it with a different color in each row: red, yellow, green, and blue. A spinner is attached to a square board and is used to determine where the player has to put their hand or foot. The spinner is divided into four labeled sections: left foot, right foot, left hand, and right hand. Each of those four sections is divided into the four colors (red, yellow, green, and blue). After spinning, the combination is called (for example: "right hand yellow") and players must move their matching hand or foot to a circle of the correct color. In a two-player game, no two people can have a hand or foot on the same circle; the rules are different for more players. Due to the scarcity of colored circles, players will often be required to put themselves in unlikely or precarious positions, eventually causing someone to fall. A person is eliminated when they fall or when their elbow or knee touches the mat. There is no limit to how many can play at once, but more than four is a tight fit. (Source: Wikipedia)

John and I have not been very active in covering all our event invites. But for Guam, we break our rule of no event after 6pm because Guam is on John's to visit travel list. Aside from that, we love Carmel Carpio, the PR of Guam here in the Philippines. Hopefully we can travel to #InstaGuam by 2019.

Good news,Visitors Bureau is giving travelers an exciting reason why you should book your flight and go to Guam this 2018. #GuamIsParadise, to be in a Shopping Island that is full of adventures – from hiking to mountains to jumping off the cliff and enjoy the deep water world. A paradise on it own eager to be discovered.  #NoFilterNeeded, not just in the digital world, but even in the foodie world. Foods that are not just picture worthy but also something to devour with the rich flavors that only Chamorro Foods can give.

#InstaVacation to Guam is only 3.5 hours away from Manila and is a great escape from the city life and traffic. There are three airlines to choose from - Philippine Airlines with every night flights to Guam, Cebu Pacific having three early morning flights and United Airlines Monday to Saturday evening flights.

Guam Visitors Bureau is set to once again to be part of Philippine Travel Agencies Association’s (PTAA) Travel Tour Expo 2018, the country’s biggest travel expo and is ready to pack the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City with travel junkies this coming February 9 to 11, 2018.

As this expo showcase both local and international travel destinations and their discounted deals, presentations from various exhibitors, live performances from a number of celebrities and raffle draws, this is a great avenue to bring exposure to Guam Visitors Bureau’s new campaign, #InstaGuam.
Guam booth is located at the Ground Floor of SMX convention, with this year having a bigger space to accommodate more travelers with their inquiries and some question about the island. Great show, game prizes, activities, photobooth and experience Guam “instantly” through the VR Room. Surprises awaits you as Miss Earth Guam will be there to welcome you with Guam’s talented entertainment team, Jesse, Ruby and dancers.
So what are you waiting for? Mark your calendars and save the dates - February 9-11, 2018 at SMX Convention Center, Sea Shell Lane, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City, with ticket price of Php 70- General Admission and Php 50- Senior Citizens. See you at the Guam booth with a warm “Hafa Adai!”

The 6th annual Shop Guam e-Festival, touted as the biggest shopping event in the Western Pacific, kicked off November 10 and runs through February 28. Guam Visitors Bureau’s on-going Shop Guam e-Festival is getting more and more exciting as we are about to the draw and announce the lucky winner of USD500 Travel Package on the 28th of February!

Guam Visitors Bureau began the festival in 2012 as a global social media marketing campaign, aimed to create an interactive shopping experience highlighting Guam as a modern, fashionable and diverse destination to shop. And last year, the island-wide festival of discounts and deals transformed into an e-Festival to fully embrace the vision of “Smart Tourism.”

The smartphone savvy can download the free mobile app by searching “Shop Guam” in the Apple App and Google Play stores, which will allow searching for nearby vendors by name or map location. The app delivers real-time information on resources, services, and activities to visitors and residents while promoting Guam as a modern, fashionable, and diverse destination to shop. It also details special offers available at each retailer. Just make sure you’re phone’s bluetooth is on!

So simple, all you have to do is download the Shop Guam e-Festival app and just enter the sweepstakes. Who knows, maybe you’re one of the winners who will be travelling to Guam this year!

To know more about Guam, you may visit the Guam Visitors Bureau’s PH Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/visitguamph, or you may follow the @visitguamph page on Instagram.

Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen

Since I mostly spend time in Shangri-La Hotel to get fit, I've searched for restaurants that offers Metro Deal discounted vouchers. Does it sound contradicting, to get fit and search for restos? Hahahaha!

Anyhow, for Joy's tipid tips, you might want to check out Ikkoryu Fukuoka Ramen in Shangri-La Plaza. I like the place because it's quite, spacious and the red chairs, I like 'em a lot!

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

We all know that the prices of flowers during Valentines Day zooms up. So instead of giving an expensive flowers, why don't you give friends and your special one cactus or succulents this time.

These are popular giveaways now for any special occasions like weddings, debut, and even baptismal.

The trick is, while planting whisper L-O-V-E to these beauties.

Cactus is a unique and stark beauty! I'm growing so fond of this surprising plant that I now have several pots decorated in the whole house.

Growing desert cactus is actually easy because it is among the toughest of all houseplants. These pretty simple rules applies in the Philippines:

1. Light: Strong light is essential. Temperature: During the active growth period, cacti prefer hot, dry temperatures, ranging from 70ºF to more than 80ºF.

2. Only water if  the soil  begins to dry.

3. Cactus are slow-growing plants and will rarely need repotting. Many species of cacti will bloom better when they are slightly under potted.

4. I didn't event use fertilizer to grow my cactus but if you feel like using fertilizer, go ahead.

5. The most common mistake is over watering cactus so make sure to keep it away from palyful kids.

Ferry Ride to Divisoria

Riza and I were tasked to head the t-shirt project of GPTA. There's no other place to visit other than Divisoria but Divi is a place I get lost at so I can't go there alone.

Riz suggested we try ferry ride going to divi. I didn't know about this ferry. I was thinking of a smaller boat that is being pulled by a rope.

The ferry ride was actually fun! It took us less than 15 minutes from Lambingan bridge to Plaza Mexico. Fare is at P35 one way per person.
