Dive and Trek

Dive and Trek is a place my husband can't get enough of because of its beautiful surrounding and the lovely fishes you can see when you go snorkeling or diving.

John first went there when he was still working at Sanofi-Synthelabo in year 2000. Then he brought me there in 2002. We went back again and again and again with different group of friends.

Our latest visit was last Sunday. John wanted his sister, Ate Peth and her family see the place before they go back to Texas.

This trip is the most exciting, since we went there on the month of July when habagat (frequent heavy rainfall, and a prevailing wind from the west) is at its season. The big waves proved harder for the boat ride because the waves were huge!

Despite the rain and big waves, Dive and Trek is still a place worth visiting. Their staff, from boat men, to receptionist, resort manager and life guards, are very accommodating and courteous. The food, oh the food, is always something to go back to go, especially their turon.

Day trip is at P1,550  per person (inclusion: boat transfer, welcome drink, buffet lunch, afternoon snack) Snorkeling gear is at P325 per head. Day rent for room starts at P2,000.

Jollibee Funko Pop

At exactly eleven in the morning, I was already at SMX for the first day of Asia Pop Comic Con 2018. The first person I saw was Kathy Kenny Ngo of Life is Kulayful. She was already talking  non-stop about buying Jollibee Funko Pop. I just listened because I don't collect Funko Pop. My husband and kids buys buys them but not only the characters they really want.

Upon entering the door at 12nn, there was no line at all at the Jollibbe Funko Pop selling booth. I had no intention of buying so I just walked around like a lost puppy. I actually don't know what to do. Events like this is for my husband because he is a collector of so many things. John was not able to join me on the first day of APCC 2018. He was busy manning the repairs and renovation at the market and at home.

At 1:18 pm, John sent a message, "Babe, buy 4 Jollibee Funko Pop". I went back to the booth and there's a long line! I was not able to buy because I had to go back home to host Meeca's 16th birthday party.

On the second day, I had no other plan but to buy my husband this hot, collector's edition Jollibee Funko Pop! I lined up as early as 10am. I also instructed my children, nephew Dylan and nieces, Audrey and Meeca to line up.  All in all we bought 7, yes, 7 Jollibee Funko Pop! Success!

After hours inside SMX, we were all tired and hungry and decide it was time to go home. We plan to have dinner at Jollibee Jupiter branch but the kids are famish so John decided to park at Jollibee Gil Puyat. We were lucky because Jollibee and Hetty were entertaining diners. It was like an answer to Audrey's wish when we were inside SMX, Audrey said, "I wish to have a party where Jollibee will be my guest".

Audrey and her family are based in Texas. When they were vacationing in the Philippines 16 years ago, Audrey had a Jollibee Party when she was 5. She can't remember that anymore. Long story short, thanks Jollibee for making our day full of joy!

Tye Sheridan

Tye Sheridan (Tye Kayle Sheridan), born on  the 11th of November 1996, is a 21 year old American actor. He is best known for playing Cyclops in the 2016 film X-Men: Apocalypse, as well as playing Wade Watts in the 2018 film Ready Player One.

At the recently concluded Asia POP Comicon Manila 2018, Tye was asked a lot of questions about his roles in X-Men: Apocalypse and Ready Player One.  I am now a fan of this young actor because his advocacy involves anything that promotes goodness and kindness.  To quote what he said before he bid the media goodbye "We all have to listen to each other. We all have to hear people's voices, and we have to understand what the true problems are. I think sometimes certain issues can get quite jaded or kind of mess behind media or whatever it is. Whatever you're encountering, if you see a problem, try your best to solve it".

Dive and Trek

This trip with Nora, Maizi and Jill is one of the most memorable and happiest Dive and Trek adventure we had. Watching this video brings back so many happy memories. It also get me teary-eyed because Nora is now based in US of A. I wonder if we can do this adventure again in the future.

If you like diving, snorkeling and trekking, try our all-time favorite Dive and Trek.  I'm not going to write much about this place, I'm just sharing here a video and photos of our newest visit.

CMDA Condo and Office Cleaning Services Review

As a young kid, I knew what I wanted to be. I wanted to work as a bank teller or flight attendant. Unfortunately, both jobs require a taller employee. I started working when I was 17 years old up to 29. In 2003, I opted to be full time mom to my twin kids. During that time we have 2 stay-in house helpers and a twice a week lady who did our laundry.

When I had my third baby, our helpers started their own families so John and I decided not to hire anymore since we couldn't find replacements at par with Millet and Mimi's caliber.

John and I are happily and proudly doing everything for our children but age is catching fast on us. Cleaning the house is becoming such a burden. Thanks to Mommy Renz for introducing CMDA Condo and Office Cleaning Services.

CMDA Condo and Office Cleaning Services is a company that helps parents like us for all our cleaning needs.

What I like about CMDA Condo and Office Cleaning Services:

1. They hire single parents as employees, thus giving them opportunity to rebuild themselves and care for their respective children.
2.  Their cleaning staff came on time! Marian and Denmark actually arrived 10 minutes earlier.
3.  They have a complete set of tools for cleaning. They even brought air purifier that smells so good!
4.  Professional, courteous and trustworthy cleaners.
5.  They are very good at what they do, deep cleaning at its best! I thought, I was the best in terms of cleaning the bathroom. Denmark wowed us with the spotless result at the masters bathroom.
6.  Marian scrubbed our bedroom walls well that it now look newly painted.
7. Rate is reasonable because everything they touched is thoroughly cleaned. In terms of rates/prices, they charge depending on location, date and present condition of your unit/space to be cleaned.

I am highly recommending CMDA Condo and Office Cleaning Services to all the stay-at-home or work-at-home parents. You deserve to rest and enjoy so let CMDA Condo and Office Cleaning Services professional staff clean your house or condo, or office/condo.

Eden Nature Park Review

Davao is a province in the Philippines that was in my list to visit for years. Finally, a day before my birthday, John and I flew there. On the first day, we toured around downtown and the city.

The most exciting part was when we went to Eden Nature Park for my 45th birthday. It was actually an impromptu trip. No plan at all! We just went at Eden because all the Dabawenyos we talked to kept on asking if we've been there.

I booked via Agoda.com as soon as we reached their reception area.  Do not copy what we did! Book ahead of time to secure a room. We were just lucky, maybe because it was my birthday, to get the last available room.

What we like at Eden Nature Park: EVERYTHING! The people are very nice. The food is delicious and nutritious. They grow their own vegetables. The cold is Baguio feels! I like the weather so much. The place, oh the place, brought us closer to nature. Imagine looking at those big, strong trees, gigantic bamboo, the sound of stream, lulling you to sleep. Heaven! Yes, we felt we were in heaven. It was peaceful everywhere we look.

They also have activities you will enjoy like fishing, aerial bicycle,  butterfly garden , swimming pool, and others.

Phone: (082) 299 1020

How to get there:

From Davao City, we took 2 jeep rides (forgot the names though). Then a tricycle (P150 each, ). Others charge 100/pax. Others charge 200/pax. This is still cheap compared to riding a cab, which will charge way higher like 3,500 from Davao City to Eden.

My advice, be bold and adventurous. We saved a lot from doing so. enJOY and travel more!

Out of Nowhere Kitchen

If you look up the meaning of out of nowhere, it means appearing or happening suddenly and unexpectedly. And that is exactly what happened when John and I found ourselves in Out of Nowhere Kitchen in Lanang, Davao City.

The story goes like this. We checked out at La Vida Orchard early and arrived in SM Lanang at 1pm. Since our flight is at 11pm, we had time to watch a movie. After watching, strolled SM to kill time. When we reached the supermarket and saw 911 Foods canned goods, we tried it and met Sahlee. We had a great conversation with Sahlee about so many things including about why we love President Duterte. After a long chat with her, she asked if where we have eaten in Davao. She then suggested we try Out of Nowhere Kitchen in Lanang since it is the nearest in SM among the three branches in Davao. Sahlee even called the owner to arrange seats for us to avoid lining up. Yes, it is best to reserve a seat if you plan to eat Out of Nowhere Kitchen because many people, tourists and Davao residents alike, like eating their because it is halal certified.

When we arrived at 7pm for dinner, Lovely expected us and welcomed us lovingly.  We even met their pastry chef, RJ. As we wait for the food to be served, we talked about how Out of Nowhere Kitchen came to be.

The location used to be a dormitory but the owner turned it into a restaurant because she likes food and cooking. Everything in Out of Nowhere, from food to the interior design, was conceptualized by the owner.  I found out later that the owner is not a chef but judging from the food we had, I thought she is.

Out of Nowhere Kitchen in Lanang started in October 2016. Barely 2 years and they now have other 2 branches in Davao and is opening another branch in soon. They also have plans in opening in Gen San. You know what it means when a food business is expanding, people are happy with the food.

Okay enough of me talking. Feel free to watch the video at your own risk of getting hungry. 😉😉

Angels from Davao

Davao is a place I wanted to visit for many years even before President Duterte decided to run for presidency. I want to see how clean this place is. I actually wanted to spend New Year in Davao before because they don't use firecrackers to celebrate the festivities. I also wanted to see how disciplined  Dabawenyos are.

During our stay, we've experienced how different the residents of Davao are as compared to Manilenos. We met a lot of kind people and three Angels from Davao are specially mentioned in this post.

First Angel, Tata. We met Tata in a multi cab we were riding going to Samal. We kept asking the driver directions going to Samal but he was having difficulty explaining. Tata respectfully joined our conversation teaching us what ride to take. We were surprised when she went down with us, waited for the right vehicle that will take us to Samal Island. She even talked to the driver to bring us safely to our destination.

Second Angel, Ma'am. We met her in the bus going to Samal. She gave us a lot of tips about Samal and Davao. We even talked about her life, family and previous work. We alighted the bus before her. It was 15 minutes ago when we learned we left our lunch in the bus. After 30 minutes, we saw Ma'am at La Vida Orchard carrying our food! She knew it was for lunch and she didn't hesitate to travel another way just to bring our food back.

Third Angel. Sahlee. We were strolling at SM Lanang  at 1pm to kill time since our flight back to Manila is 11pm. When we reached the supermarket, there was a food tasting for 911 canned goods. Sahlee has a cheerful uplifted our tired bodies. She even suggested and arranged our dinner at Out of Nowhere. I was not able to take a video of Sahlee because we had so much time talking.

Monticillo Lorenzo Review

I've been too busy with the opening of classes so I was not able to book a hotel for our Davao trip early.  John and I decided to book Monticillo Lorenzo right after landing Davao International Airport. We chose Monticillo Lorenzo based the rates (almost P1,760) and the photos provided by booking.com.

What we like about Monticillo Lorenzo:

1.The staff, Jenny, was very kind.
2. The pool is nice.
3.  Siopao and hot choco's delicious.
4. Located near 911 and Yellow Fin Resto.
5. Plenty of trees and plants.
6. Near public transport.

What we didn't like about Monticillo Lorenzo:
1. There was a cat poop near our room.
2.  No intercom and telephone so we had to go down several times to aske for things we need.
3.  There's no comforter in the room. When I told the receptionist about it, she said, they provide comforter upon the request of the guest. They should have told us that upon our arrival, not when we are about to leave.
4.  Booking.com's published rate for the room we got was P1,440. It was what they sent me via email. as well. When we got to Monticillo, they're charging us  P1,760. I hope next time booking, com will  be transparent to publish the rate + whatever taxes included so that the guests and hotel owners won't have miscommunication issues at all about rates.

La Vida Orchard Bed and Breakfast Review

Our trip to Samal Island is impromptu so I booked for an overnight stay at La Vida Orchard Bed and Breakfast in less than 3 hours. I based my booking because I like the photo provided by booking.com. Plus, La Vida had the  cheapest rate at the time of booking.

I made the right choice because the owners, Mrs. Deborah and Mr. Alberto, were very nice. Ma'am Deb even made mango smoothie for us because they have plenty of mangoes while we were there. Their breakfast starts at 630am but Ma'am Deb made sure we had breakfast at 530am before heading to our Samal adventure.

What I didn't like? One, the water coming from the shower is too weak. It took us longer time to rinse off. No tv and wifi in the room. Wifi and tv is only available in the lobby and adjacent dining area so I was not able to finish my work at night. No soap and toothbrush provided in the room. They only have 2 small sachets of shampoo- with-conditioner.

Overall, our stay in La Vida is fairly nice because of the friendly reception from the owners, especially Ma'am Deb. Nino, the manager and son of the owners, even connected us with the best tour guide and service vehicle, Kuya Joseph. Hire Kuya Joseph if you plan to tour Samal Island.

Hagimit Falls

More than the beach, I enjoy waterfalls so I made sure that Hagimit Falls is our last stop in Samal Island before heading back to Manila. Hagimit Falls is about 2 km from Penaplata proper. John and I went their via the help of tour guide Kuya Joseph. You may opt to ride from Penaplata proper with car or jeepney, it will only take you five minutes ride to experience its mystique.

There' a P50 entrance fee, plus P5 environmental fee per person. Before reaching the falls facade, there's a  cemented trail going down. Upon getting there you can just sit and be amazed by the magnificence of the falls. The Hagimit Water Falls is quite small, but its’ running water will give you a relief from the tiring travel you had.

There are some cottages for the visitors to rent but John and I decided not to rent since we stayed only for a quick dip and took lots of photos and videos.

Calibre 45

I'm happily singing Stars on 45 as I sip a cup of Blend 45 coffee because today, July 12, I turned Calibre 45! Yes, happily and proudly saying I am now FORTY-FIVE years old!

Most people, especially women, does not like the idea of telling their age. I am not one of those most people. You see, I lost my mom when I was just 20. Mama was 43 years old then. Since then, I celebrate each day joyfully. Each year that I turn a year old I celebrate it as the most important day of my life because life as we know it, is really short.

For my birthday I wanted to post 45 things I've learned in life but I still haven't finished it. I'm still in no 25. I'll probably just do it five years from now for 5o things I've learned in life.

Meantime, this is a shameless post as I'm attaching 45 photos I love. Birthday ko naman, pagbigyan nyo na ako.
