Maria Sollon of Groovy Sweat

It was a lovely afternoon as we wait for the sunset at The Peak in Hong Kong. The day was made lovelier when we saw Maria Sollon of Groovy Sweat exercising at the far end of Sky Terrace 428.

I knew she's not your average Jane not only because of her great body mostly because her smile was genuine. Although she was busy filming her routine, she didn't mind us talking with her while she was exercising. When she was done, she even gave me time for a quick chit-chat.

Maria is a Fitness Professional based in USA., Blogger, Explorer, Creative Mover and a really nice fellow.

Ocean Park Hong Kong

It took me 17 years before visiting Hong Kong again. I wanted to skip Ocean Park because I've seen it and as a 45 year old woman, my knees are not that strong anymore, but my husband said we have to include it in our itinerary so our kids can experience the thrill we've experienced 17 years ago.

The first time John and I went in Ocean Park was completely different from our recent trip. First because we were on a group tour before so we were picked up in the hotel by our tour guide and traveled via bus. We were on our own when we reached Ocean Park and was picked up the bus again after 4 hours of stay.

This time I did a DIY tour with my family. We traveled via MTR  from Tsim Sha Tsui and went down Admiralty station. A short 5 minute walk from MTR and we reached Ocean Park.

We arrived at Ocean Park around 12nn. We first rode Express Train going up to the rides. It was already very hot and we were hungry so we ate lunch first at one of the restaurants.

By the time we finished our lunch, Rafael felt exhausted and feverish so we brought him at the clinic and was given a paracetamol. John stayed with him while I went back to see the pandas with Julia, Juan and Jomes.

After seeing the panda, we lined up for cable car. The line was super long because most tourist came in around 3pm. John called me up to go back and see Rafael's condition so we can decide if we will cut our Ocean Park adventure to go back to the hotel. Good thing Rafael felt better when I came back.
I was not able to ride the cable anymore. The most important thing is that my son felt better after seeing his beautiful mom😁.

Tips before planning your trip to Ocean Park:

1. Buy your tickets online to avoid long queue.
2. Ocean Park opens at 1030am so be there as early as 930 am and enjoy the view.
3. Start your adventure by riding the cable car first so you won't be waiting for a long time.
4. If you're a thrill junkie, finish all the important rides before visiting pandas, penguins and other attractions.
5. Food is not allowed inside Ocean Park.
6. You don't need to bring water because Ocean Park has drinking fountains spread evenly throughout the place.
7.  Bring cash as some kiosks only accepts cash.
8. Whatever unexpected events happen, just relax and enjoy the view. That's what John and I did when our son got exhausted from the heat.

Hong Kong Disneyland

When we went in Hong Kong in 2001, Hong Kong Disneyland was not yet constructed so I vowed to one day enjoy this largest theme park in Hong Kong located on reclaimed land in Penny's Bay, Lantau Island. It is located inside the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and it is owned and managed by Hong Kong International Theme Parks.

After spending an overnight at Disney Explorers Lodge, we checked out early and left our luggage at the hotel for safe keeping then we headed at Hong Kong Disneyland for a full day of fun and excitement.

I bought our tickets at Klook which saved us a lot of time. Plus we get a priority entrance because we were guests of Disney Explorers Lodge. All we did was show a proof receipt of the hotel.

Tips to fully enjoy Hong Kong Disneyland:

1. If you have extra money, book in any of the three Disney Hotels. Disneyland Hotel is the most grand and the most expensive. The newest one and nearest to to the sea is Disney Explorers Lodge. The most affordable if you're on a budget is Hollywood Disney Hotel.

2. Avoid going to Hong Kong Disneyland on a weekend to avoid over crowding.

3. No need to bring water but brig a water bottle because they have water refilling stations inside the park.

4. Buy your tickets online. It's more economical.

5. Better yet, wait for sale announcements to get a better deal.

6. Don't forget your sunblock as it tends to be super hot in the afternoon.

7. Enjoy!

Fine Image Salon

John and my kids kept saying I look old on ash blonde color so I decided to change the color from ash blond to red in preparation for our trip to Hong Kong.

Fine Image Salon is located at 3551 M. Roxas Street, Sta. Ana, Manila. It is owned by my Tukayo Joy. Joy has been in the salon business for years so I am confident my hair will be taken cared of by her staff. She has 2 other Salons located in Bacoor, Cavite.

The whole treatment, color and repair treatment cost only P3,000 considering I have a very long hair. So if you're on a budget like me, visit Fine Image Salon.

Thanks to Yuna for making my hair looking happy and me looking young. Thanks also for Akira and Cecille for taking care of John and me.

Katre Leather Backpack

In preparation for my family trip in Hong Kong, I went at Styled Pop Store in Shangri-La Plaza Mall to check out bags. I needed a bag big enough to carry important stuff including water bottles that will hydrate our bodies because I know how hot it is in Disneyland Amusement Park.

May suggested Katre Leather Backpack, Strand Softie. This bag comes in three colors and is worth P8,400.

Jim Bakery

As we walk the street of Carnarvon on our way back to the hotel after long hour stay at the Peak I smelled something really good! The freshly smelling sponge cake was coming from Jim Bakery. There was a long line but I didn't hesitate to wait because I like sponge cake a lot!

Juancho was so happy to see Jim Bakery because he said it is famous in Youtube as jiggly cake.

They offer original Egg Sponge Cake at 50HKD and Cheese Sponge Cake at 60HKD per box. Though I prefer the latter, both sponge cakes are a must to try when in Hong Kong.

Watching the bakers was fun and relaxing. Eating the sponge cakes, heaven! We were supposed to eat it for breakfast but it was gone in 60 seconds as soon as we opened the box!

Crush

Crush means a brief but intense infatuation for someone. It's synonyms are infatuation or puppy love. I guess all young kids experience having a crush. When I was in high school I had 2 crush. One in First year (Grade 7 equivalent now) and one in third year.

Both boys did not know I had a crush on them back then. After college, my batchmates in St. Francis requested for a reunion so I organized it in year 2000.

At the final meeting for the said reunion my former crush in third year attended. He sat beside me and talked like it was the first time he saw me, he said "kamusta ka na Alberto, san ka ba naglalagi at di kita nakikita?".  Di ko na natiis and replied, "Ikaw talaga Noie, kahit naman noon di mo ako nakikita. Naalala mo lang ako pag kokopya ka ng homeworks at projects". To which he replied with a laugh, "ganun ba?".  No holds barred na ito  so I said, "hindi mo naman talaga ako nakikita noon, malamang nga hindi mo alam na crush kita". Shocked sya, "Talaga, crush mo nga ako noon?".

That was in year 2000, the last time I saw him alive. I did get to see him again in year 2014 in Facebook via a common friend when his comment popped in one of my FB friends. We connected and briefly chatted. I was happy to see him happily married with 3 kids, a son and twin girls. Eulette  seemed nice and bubbly. I instantly liked her. To make things light at the wake, I told  her about my 'crush' story. We both laughed and that's the start of this beautiful almost nightly chat.

I don't sleep at night  and I'm thankful that Eulette has been very kind reading and listening to me when everyone are already in cloud nine sleeping. Our almost daily and nightly conversations made me feel like we have been friends since high school.

We've finally had our first date at Lea Salonga's 40th Anniversary Concert. I'm really happy she made it to the concert despite the traffic.

Sabi ko sa kanya before she went home, "hindi pala talaga meant na maging boyfriend ko ni Noie. Daan lang pala sya para kami tayo maging girlfriends. Tayong dalawa pala talaga para sa isa't isa." We both laughed and ended the night with joy in our hearts.

Actually crush ko na si Eulette. Crush, meaning I admire her for being tough in many ways.

Joyride

I'm not feeling so well for the past two weeks. I'm probably stressed and sad at the same time because two of my co-parents from my kids' previous school have recently passed away. They were in their 40s just like me.

I knew I needed to do something to keep my mind away from worrying too much so John and I took time off for a joyride, Manila-Bulacan-Subic-Tarlac-Baguio.

Liam Joy's 12th Birthday

Due to hectic schedule, it's been quite awhile since the last time I went at Nen's place in Bulacan. When Nen invited us for Liam Joy's 12th Birthday, I immediately replied yes because it was the perfect time to visit my bff and her family.

It was an afternoon of simple lunch, pure joy and love as I get to reunite with Mama (Nen's mom), JD, LJ and my inaanak Jad.

LJ's friends and classmates added fun when they participated in my vlog's final words...

Savoy Hotel Manila

I'm one the privilege few vloggers who was invited to attend the Grand Opening of Savoy Hotel Manila. As a token for covering their event, press people were given 2 overnight accommodation gift certificates to be used at our pleasure.

Coming from a very hectic July to September schedule, my husband asked me to book an overnight with Savoy.

What can I say about this hotel? I like that they have a pool that is partly covered so that you can swim anytime in the afternoon without having a sunburn. I like that their gym is equipped with  enough fitness machine.s to cater to their guests. John and I even got to chat with singer-actor Mig Ayesa at the gym! The food is great! There's even an acoustic night from 9pm to 11pm.

To top it all, my husband is very hard to please so when he says, this is a nice place, I take his word for it. He liked Savoy Hotel Manila and he couldn't wait for our next stay there.

Lea Salonga's 40th Anniversary Concert

Lea Salonga's 40th Anniversary Concert was sold out just 3 days after they announced in the media. The two-night concert at the PICC Plenary Hall scheduled on October 19 and 20! I am very fortunate to be given the chance to watch the first night. Thanks, Gwen, for making Riz, Eulette and yours truly very happy!

Lea Salonga, the award-winning singer and actress, Miss Saigon star, Tony Award Awardee, Olivier Awardee, Theatre World Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awardee, who is also known for giving singing voices to Jasmine from Aladdin (1992) as well as Mulan (1998), is also the Goddess of Love, Erzulie from Once on This Island, and Eponine in the Broadway production of Les Miserables, loving daughter, sister, wife and mother  gave the audience a powerful performance that is truly a concert to remember.

Lea credits her mom, Ligaya, for her longevity in the business, “I wouldn't be here if not for my mom - my mom-nager. She checks everything making sure every thing is in order".

Like her past anniversary concerts, lea wore Rajo Laurel creations, “I made my theater debut with him. We were on the same show, so it’s very fitting that every anniversary, I have to get him.”

The concert, directed by Bobby Garcia and conducted by her brother Gerard Salonga, featured a repertoire of masterpieces that have catapulted Lea's status in the global music industry.

British actor and singer, Simon Bowman, was among the guests performers. He is best known for originating the role of Chris, opposite Lea Salonga's Kim, in the original production of Miss Saigon at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in the West End. Together, Lea and Simon wowed the auduence with their Last Night fo The World performance.

The other guests are Christian Bautista, Esang and Nicole (Lea's daughter).

City Pint Leather Bag by Katre

I wasn't feeling well for 2 weeks but I continued to do the things needed to be done. As a reward from my sweet, thoughtful and lovely Fairy Godmother Gwen, I watched Lea Salonga's 40th Anniversary Concert last night with Riz and Eulette.

I opted to wear a white blazer instead of black to brighten my sickly-tired looking eyes. Underneath the blazer is a fuschia cotton dress. Beneath it is Victoria Secret undergarments sponsored by my friend Nora😁 To make my Jolas legs look slimmer and longer, I wore a bejewelled high heeled shoes. To complete the look,  I carried a chic City Pint Leather Bag by Katre. This cute blueberry bag complements all my clothes as it can be carried by hand or as a shoulder bag. Its room is big enough to carry my essentials - wallet, celphone, powerbank, alcogel, facial tissue and pepper spray.

Blueberry City Pint Bag by Katre

Covering an event when I won't be bringing a car requires that I carry a bag that is small yet roomy enough to house my wallet, mobile phone, power bank, lipstick, hand gel, cologne and facial tissue. Good thing I have my Blueberry City Pint Bag by Katre.

City Pint Bag is a cute bag that stylishly, safely and comfortably stowed all my travel essentials while enjoying the beautiful view of Intramuros.  It is crafted from calf leather, which opens wide to a beautifully unlined interior. The matching shoulder strap adjusts well to my needs and height😁  Best of all, the blueberry color of this City Pint fits well in any style and color of clothes I wear.

A Star Is Born

A Star is Born is a 1937 film, which was previously remade in 1954 and then again in 1976. This moving love story  is Bradley Cooper's first directorial job. I didn't see the original film and the 2 other remake, but many film critics agree that Cooper's take is the best one of them all.

Aside from being a good-looking and great actor, his deft direction of this movie has landed him another title.

Fueled by strong performances, both by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper,  A Star Is Born is a must see movie.

Synopsis:
In this new remake movie, Bradley Cooper plays seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discover and falls in love with struggling artist Ally (Gaga). She has just about given up on her dream to make it big as a singer until he met Jack. As Ally's career takes off, Jack's alcohol and drug abuse problems brings his singing career and marriage suffer.

Intramuros Tour

Born and raised in the Philippines and studied in three universities but I never got the time to tour Intramuros. I was busy trying to figure what I really wanted in life😀.

Finally, I got the chance to see this beautiful place because after I covered the opening of Old Manila Eco Market last Sunday.

I hired Kuya Nhoyan to tour me around. For local tourists, rate is P150 per every 30 minutes and P200 for foreigners.

I lost Kuya Nhoyan's number but if you happen to go at Intramuros, just ask his fellow pedicab tour drivers.

Intramuros is the 0.67 square kilometers historic walled area within the modern city of Manila, the capital of the Philippines. It is administered by the Intramuros Administration, which was created through the Presidential Decree No. 1616 signed on April 10, 1979. (Wikipedia)

Rules for the Lender and The Borrower

I am a very practical person so when I need an item, like a costume or gown for my events I don't spend to buy a new one, I borrow from friends.

Last November 2017, an FB friend asked me if I know someone who can lend her a gown since she's a plus size woman. My cousin is also a plus size, so immediately messaged my cousin if she can lend the gown she wore from her daughter's wedding. I vouched for the borrower, saying that this borrower is a kind person and all. Since my cousin and I are very close, without any hesitation, she said yes. I connected both of them in FB. I specifically told the borrower to have the gown dry cleaned and return it within a week. She agreed.

Months passed, my cousin messaged me saying the gown has not been returned. I am in a very delicate position so I gave the borrower an ultimatum to return the gown immediately or I am going to take legal action. The borrower had the guts to say so many words and make me look the villain of this story! She even blocked me on FB.

To cut the long story short, it took 9 months before the gown was returned. The gown was ripped at most parts. The laces were awfully looking.

Am I mad at the borrower? At first yes because she blocked me in FB. I actually wanted to take legal action for her to pay for the damages but I guess she might be in a very dire situation at that moment.  I really think she's a good person. She may just be having enough troubles of her own. So instead of getting mad and doing legal action, I took full responsibility and did something to make it up to my cousin.

There are many lessons we can learn from this experience. Here are Few Rules for the Lender and The Borrower and The Middleman.

For the Lender:

Filipino are known for being accommodating, we can't say no because we  but feel uncomfortable letting people down with their requests.  If the item being borrowed is very special, politely decline.  In short, your property, your rule!

However, if you lend the item, make sure you have an agreement and keep all forms of communications (mobile phone texts, private messages in FB/IG, email etc.)

Take note of the following for borrowing-lending agreement:
1.  State name of the borrower, the item being borrowed and the date to be returned.
2.  State the condition the item being borrowed (better to take photos and attached it when necessary.
3.  State how the item is going to be used, as well as the date and time it is going to be used so you'll know it's not being abused.
4.  Both the lender and the borrower must sign on the agreement form.
5.  If you're lending money or an item with a high value, have  the agreement form notarized by a lawyer for future reference when necessary.
6.  Remember that the item was borrowed and it was meant to be returned and you are within your rights to ask for it so don't be afraid to remind the borrower of his or her obligation to return the item but do it politely.
7.  If the borrower refused ignore you, you can remind him or her that she/he agreed to return it on a certain day that has already passed and show him or her of the agreement form you both signed.
8.  If you lend money or an item with a high value and the borrower refused to communicate, it is time to consult with a lawyer.
9.  If the borrower is a friend or a relative, who refused to return the borrowed item or money, you can write it off and consider it a lesson learned.
10.  All of these choices will probably hurt the relationship, which is why it's generally best not to borrow from or lend to someone you want to remain friends with.

For the Borrower

1. Be a responsible borrower. Return the item on the agreed time. Returning the item earlier than the schedule is better.
2. Don't take advantage of the lender's generosity. If you cannot return the item borrowed on time, give the lender heads before the agreed upon date and time.
3.  Be honest.  If whatever you borrowed gets damaged, tell the lender outright and make a sincere apology and have the item fixed. If it can't be fixed, go buy the person a new one.
4.  Be extra cautious about borrowing from from a friend, a relative or a coworker because if something goes wrong, you risk jeopardizing your relationships.  It is best to borrow money to a lending institution  like banks or cooperatives where the deal is strictly business. Borrowing the tagline from a Pinoy movie, "pautang lang, walang perosnalan".
5.  If you ask to borrow something, and the lender refuse to let you borrow, don't be offended. Do not take it personally. It is his/her money by the way.

For The Middleman/Guarantor:

As much as you can, DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN THE POSITION OF BEING A GUARANTOR.
You will be liable for any damage that the borrower failed to comply.

Mama's 68th Birthday

I lost my mom at an early age. She was just 43 in April of 1993. Mama must have prayed so hard for me to find another mother who will take care of me. After 6 months I met Mama Esther. She's the mother of my then boyfriend (who's now my husband). The first time we met, she said "I like you. John told me a lot of good things about you. Just love my son and we will live happily ever after".

25 years after, Mama is now 68 and we are living happily and peacefully. I love Mama so much. She took care of me like a real daughter. I am very blessed to have her as mom-in-law.

Old Manila Eco Market

My Sunday was indeed a fruitful day as I attended the opening of  Old Manila Eco Market in Intramuros.  Old Manila Eco Market will run  all Sundays from October 7th to December 30th. Dubbed as the very first eco market in the Philippines, it was conceptualized in partnership with Intramuros Administration. It is surely a one of a kind  weekend market where selected social entrepreneurs, small-scale and eco-friendly businesses around the country are invited to showcase their world-class products and services.

 • A zero-waste market where plastic is banned. Merchants are to sell their products in eco-friendly packaging while market-goers are encouraged to bring their own utensils, lunch boxes, and eco bags for their purchases.

• A healthy-living market where selling sodas and food with preservatives will not be allowed. A fresh fruit and vegetable stall will be set-up right in the middle of the market for the market-goers -- foodies and health buffs alike can get their weekly produce supply at the eco market.

 • A child and pet friendly market where kids of all ages, families of all sizes and kind are encouraged to bond with their family and friends over a Sunday of good food.

• A Filipino market. Priority is given to booths that will showcase Filipino brands. The eco market wants to provide that much-needed exposure to small entrepreneurs and hence, it prioritizes giving booth slots to social enterprises that are directly tied-up to marginalized communities. Selling counterfeit and sub-standard items will not be allowed.

Teacher's Euphoria Night at CMSHS

Of all the hard jobs around, one of the hardest is being a good teacher that's why Teacher's Day is celebrated with much gusto.

For the finale celebration of  Teacher's Day at MandScie, The Supreme Student Governmnet 2018-2019, headed by Sir Nonato, worked hard and well for Teacher's Euphoria Night at CMSHS .

Congratulations to SSG for a job well done! Thanks to all the parents, headed by GPTA President Ma'am Beth for taking part in this celebration.

Muli ang taos-pusong pasasalamat sa ating mga guro sa CMSHS, sa pangunguna ni Dr. Corazon Regino.

Ginataang Kuhol Cooking Session with Mareng Jingle

Takpan at pakuluan. Ilagay ang kakang gata, hintayin kumulo muli. Ilagay ang kangkong at sili. Patayin kaagad ang apoy pagkatapos ilagay ang kangkong at sili.
