Ms. Nancy Vitangcol @ 50

My heart was field with joy when the Birthday Lady invited me for her 50th Birthday Celebration. I  actually do not know Ms. Nancy Vitangcol. It was her daughter, Ysabelle of YsabelleVitangcol.com whom I first met at Uniqlo event then we added in Facebook.

When Ysabelle had a Birthday Giveaway in her blog 3 years ago, I was one of the winners. I won a Viktoria Couture formal dress from that contest. Little did I know, taht the owner is Ysabelle's mom.

Long story short, I am honored to know one of the most gracious, generous, gorgeous and Godly woman on earth.

Happy 50th Birthday, Ms, Nancy!

Mines View Park Hotel

Baguio City is one place my family and I visit at least once a year.   We've been to Baguio countless times and we still get excited with the 4 hour drive, expecting to eat strawberries to our hearts (should I say stomach?) content.

Our travel to The City of Pines is usually harried. Our trip this weekend was a lot different.  We were extra ordinarily relaxed at our stay in Mines View Park Hotel.

It was our first time to stay in this part of Baguio and I must say, we felt we should have been there long ago. The hotel is far from the noise and the crowded area. We actually felt it was colder in Mines View Park Hotel, maybe because the hotel is located on a higher ground with lots of trees than the other areas.

I love that the room we stayed for the first night has a view of the Cordillera Mountains right from our bedroom window! I was able to capture the sunrise just while yawning and stretching after having a good night sleep.

Unlike other hotels, Mines View Park Hotel only has 27 beautifully appointed and very comfortable guest rooms so it is a must that you book ahead of time. They also have Function Rooms that can accommodate small to medium scale Corporate Events, Sales Conferences and Team Buildings or even Retreats, as well as Social events like Debuts, Anniversaries, Birthdays and many more.

Located right beside the historical Mines View Park, City of Pines, Baguio City. A stones-throw away from the bustling Baguio Metropolis. The hotel is within a stones-throw from the popular universities and shopping malls, and new commercial establishments. Surrounded by famous landmarks like Good Shepherd, The Mansion and Wright Park. And about 15 minutes away from Session Road.

While at Mines View Park Hotel, you have to dine at their flagship restaurant ZEN's Bar and Restaurant. They offers a wide variety of gastronomic surprises like the Mines View Park Hotel's signature dish,g."We had our breakfast and dinner at Zenz Bar and Restaurant, where a wide variety of gastronomic surprises, including that of  Strawberry Sinigang, Pork Chicken Adobo with Strawberry on top, Strawberry Bibing Crepe and Bibing Crisp, which are all the hotel's original dish.

Halfmoon Café, with its very famous "Bibing-Crepe" and Bibing Crisp, best paired with Benguet coffee, is a must-try when you're in the City of Pines.

They also have a Fitness Center with the latest state of the art equipment. Imagine working out overlooking the .

If you want to read a book or just take a look at lush mountains of the Cordilleras, go to their "The View Deck" located at the 5th level of the new building.

I can go on and on with lots of word but it would be better if you experience what Mines View Park Hotel has to offer.

First Metro Management Inc.

As mother of three, I have been an advocate of protecting the future of my kids - mentally, emotionally, physically and financially. As early as 2001, I already have an insurance that will take care of the twins.  When the twins were born in 2002, I made sure to get them an insurance with investment.  That's just how far my knowledge in saving money for my family.

Thanks to Marcie for introducing me to First Metro Management, Inc. (FAMI), the fund management subsidiary of First Metro Investment Corporation, for an afternoon of animated discussion about finance.

I usually get bored listening or attending financial literacy seminars but not this event, entitled Smart Women Invest, a financial and investment literacy workshop specifically catered to help Filipinas transform from savers into investors. They have made sure the workshop is engaging with two women who are knowledgeable in handling money and investments.

Leading the workshop is FAMI’s first-ever female president Karen Roa, a 25-year expert in the field of finance. With a career that spans both domestic and international banking operations, she has a wealth of experience that fuels her financial skills. She has worked with some of the most renowned global companies in banking and asset management, such as Chase Manhattan Bank, SunGard Asia Pacific, trust banking groups of Philam Bank, and Citibank NA. She also served as President and CEO of Philam Asset Management, Inc. (PAMI). Roa was also a lecturer at the country’s top universities, Ateneo de Manila and UP, teaching business courses on strategy, investment management, and financial services.

FAMI’s first-ever female president Karen Roa

Ms. Rose Fres Fausto on the other hand, is known as FQ Mom. She was an investment banker turned full-time homemaker and now a writer, speaker, and resource person on money and family. Her career draws its roots in banking as an analyst at Far East Bank and later on as assistant vice president for Corporate Finance at one of the country’s leading investment houses. She also had a consultancy stint for a USAID renewable energy project. Today she discusses money, parenting, women issues, and the use of Behavioral Economics principles in different aspects of life in her books, columns, online shows, talks, and workshops.

Ms. Rose Fres Fausto

One of the highlights of the workshop was the online FQ Test, which determines the participants’ standing in terms of Financial Intelligence Quotient (FQ). Fausto said: “In order to have a high FQ, women must first understand their relationship with money. She also added that those who didn’t fare well in the test need not worry because their FQ scores are not cast in stone. They can be improved by tweaking some of their money habits and unleashing the female characteristics that are actually good for investing, allowing them to go beyond saving.”

The best part about a healthy FQ is that its concepts can be learned and, in turn, shared with the family. Fausto said, “Women are large influencers in their community so a woman with high FQ can be a driver in raising children with smarter money sense, build a career and investment life that is fruitful and lucrative, and even lead a household and home that is sufficient and stable. Again, with fortified FQ—women have proven once again that they’re on top of their game.”

Securing a Financial Future

As a member of the Metrobank Group, FAMI holds a veritable reputation in asset management. FAMI’s mutual fund business is adept at promoting savings mobilization and advocates investment literacy, making it the perfect partner for women to learn, live and start loving finance.  Besides the women-centric learning in finance and investment, the attendees also received a free investment in First Metro Consumer Fund. Roa said, “This is our way of thanking the women who attended our workshop. The First Metro Consumer Fund is invested in industries that benefit from the Philippine family consumption and expenditure pattern. These are industries supported by women and mothers in our country. This is a great way to start their investment journey.

About First Metro Asset Management, Inc.

Fine Image Salon with Gay

I met Gay like ten years ago in an art class. She is a bubbly girl that we instantly hit. We added in Facebook but never got the chance to meet again in person.

Until one day Gay messaged in Facebook asking about my red hair. To cut the long story short, we found a way to meet again. Thanks to my red hair by Fine Image Salon!

Oregano

It was my late Lola Ebeng who introduced me to this wonder plant when I was just a three year old little girl, forty-two years ago to be exact. Lola made sure my siblings and I take a spoonful of freshly squeezed Oregano whenever we have cough and colds. I hated that experience but it was actually very effective. Since Lola and Mama have long been gone and the passing of time created a fast-paced life, it led us to rely mostly on pharmacy-bought medicines.

Thanks to that Lysol Event who gifted Mommy Bloggers with Oregano in a small pot which has now flourished beautifully in my garden.

It does not only serve its purpose of curing my cough and colds but it actually is great at repelling insects. Aside from that, when I have visitors I don't buy flowers anymore to make my home beautiful, I use Oregano as an accent.

According to The Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, Oregano is a species of Origanum, belonging to the mint family (Lamiaceae). Its name comes from the Greek words oros (mountain) and ganos (joy). Oregano typically grows 50 cm tall and has purple leaves around 2 to 3 centimeters in length. The chemicals that give the herb its unique and pleasant smell are thymol, pinene, limonene, carvacrol, ocimene, and caryophyllene. It is also used for the following illnesses and conditions Muscle pain, Acne, Dandruff,  Bronchitis, Toothache,  Bloating, Headaches, Heart Conditions, Allergies, Intestinal parasites, Earache, Fatigue and  Menstrual cramps. However, it's important to note that further high quality study results are necessary to confirm these claims

Hello Kitty Cafe

I've been planning to dine at Hello Kitty Cafe since the first day of their opening in the Philippines two years ago.  I wanted to try this cute restaurant with my daughter Julia but she's very busy with her school.

Finally, without any plans I got to try Hello Kitty Cafe in Uptown Mall in BGC with my sister-in-law, Tita Gaye, after our Miss Esthe facial treatment.

I was hoping to see a lot of Hello Kitty items displayed but they only have a few. In terms of the food, I like the Mushroom Soup served in bowl made of bread. The chicken that Tita Gaye ordered is too hard. Felt like it was left in the ref for days. The couscous was also disappointing that we only ate the veggies on top of it. The mango shake was super disappointing. It definitely lack enough mangoes to be called mango shake. The servers are also not attentive to think there were not too many customers that time. I like that the place is super clean. The price? Well, you're paying for the name of this iconic cat so deal with it.😀

Miss Esthe Facial Salon and Skin Care

Miss Esthe is a product from Tokyo, Japan. They have been in the business studying seriously the skin of tens of thousands of women for 30 years. The company make sure to study skin, develop raw materials and products, improve techniques, and work toward quality assurance and safety.

Having high Japan standard prompted  the owners of Miss Esthe Facial Salon and Skin Care to put this salon in the Philippines. Actually, this is the first Miss Esthe Facial Salon and Skin Care in the world.

I have been invited to numerous facial salon but I have to say Miss Esthe Facial Salon and Skin Care exceeded my expectation.

I normally don't go for black and white heads removal because I find pricking very painful. In Miss Esthe, I felt comfortable because they use a more modern gadget and technique in removing those stubborn dirt on my face.

I want to tell you more about the things I enjoyed but it's better if you try Miss Esthe's services. This might be the skin salon you've been praying for a long time.

From The Lens Of Eve

Five  women   photographers   are   featured   in   the   show   –  Annabelle  Chavez,  Lauren  Malcampo,  MaryanneMendoza,  Mrae  Orden  and  Jen Perez  – with  the spectrum  of their works  drawing inspiration from natural landscapes, and the varying style of each photographer as wide-ranging as the locations of the photographs. The exhibition explores the nexus between photographer and photograph – the uniqueness of the narratives andemotion   behind  each   frame.

“Women  bring   a   different   perspective   to   photography.   Women   see   and   feel differently, and the images they create altogether enrich the entire field,” Mrae Orden explains.

On   the  significance  of   having   an   all   women   landscape   photography   exhibition,   the featured photographers describe the realities of the genre. Lauren Malcampo points out, “In photography, women have always been a minority.” Jen Perez agrees, “While women have slowly made remarkable inroads in photography, it is still a male-dominated industry, particularly in the genre of landscape photography. Not because few are good, but because women are less visible.” Shangri-La Plaza hopes to change that by providing a platform to highlight the talent of women photographers and help cultivate a wider appreciation of their work. “We want to laud Shangri-La Plaza for being a platform in bringing together female talent in photography,” says Maryanne Mendoza. Annabelle Chavez adds, “I hope that other women artists who will see our exhibit get encouraged in pursuing their own passions.”

A must-see for mall guests, From the Lens of Eve photography exhibition is at the East Atrium from March 14-19,and  at  the   Level   1,   Main   Wing  from  March   20-31.  #FeelTheShangVibe at #FromTheLensOfEve  exhibit thisWomen’s Month at Shangri-La Plaza.

3 Kinds of Friends

According to Greek philosopher and scientist, Aristotle, there are 3 Kinds of Friends you will meet in your lifetime, namely Friends of Utility, Friends of Pleasure and Friends of the Good.

Friends of Utility are those people who are on friendly terms mainly due to the benefits each brings to the table. They are commonly known as colleagues, peers, schoolmates, officemates and business partners.

Friends of Pleasure are those people who likes each other because of the enjoyment of hanging out due to common hobbies and interests.

Friends of the Good are the most important friends because they are usually long lasting. Friends of the good are hard to find and develop. These friends will always tell you what you need to hear and not what you want to hear. This a friendship based upon respect, appreciation for each other’s qualities and brutal honesty.

I am indeed blessed for having Gigi Hasabulla as one of few Friends of the Good

“Wishing to be friends is quick work,
but friendship is a slow-ripening fruit”
- Aristotle

Shallow by Juan Mendiola

The story has been told countless times, Regine Velasquez, as a child, was encouraged to sing in neck-deep water in the sea to strengthen her lungs and improve her breathing technique.

As much as I'd like to do the same with Juancho, malayo ang dagat sa amin. Kaya ang tangi nyang paraan ay sa bath tub sya kumakanta. Yes, paraan nya, and not forced by me.

I hope Juan does not get mad that I posted this video.

Motto Motto All Day Japanese

My twin kids won Mr. and Ms. MandSci 2019 last February 15. We've celebrated it with people close us in different ways. Julia and Rafael brought pasta (which I cooked), cake and juice in their respective class. I treated Percia and Emma in a restaurant. And we've fed most family and friends at home.

It's been a month now and yet we've forgotten to treat the real winners - Julia and Rafael. So last Sunday off we went at Motto Motto in Serendra for our family celebration.

Motto Motto is the newest Raintree Group's Japanese restaurant, partnered with Piglet's Nobuhide Andoh. Their other collaborations are Chotto Matte and Izakaya Sensu. Some of Chotto Matte's rolls are actually part of Motto Motto's menu.

We went on a Sunday so Motto Motto's guests are mostly family like us, #Mendiolables. The place is full of laughter from parents and children.

The ambiance of the place speaks Kawaii, meaning cute in the context of Japanese popular culture. I made sure to take a lot of family photos to be used as profile picture in Facebook😍

The menu have everything that will satisfy both young kids and old parents 😀, from salad, to rice bowls, to  California roll, tempura, sashimi, yakisoba, cakes and more.

Juancho ordered the fun kid-friendly meals aboard the Shinkansen.  It has spaghetti, fried chicken, salad and dessert. Kids even gets a toy when they order this meal.

Julia enjoyed Niku Maki Hanjuku Tamago (Soft Boiled Eggs wrapped in Pork Belly Slices and baked with Teriyaki Sauce) Chicken Karaage, Burger Patty, Potato Salad, Rice and Dessert.

Rafael ordered  Aburi Butadon (Aburi Pork Belly with Sweet Soy Sauce) and Chicken Karaage.
John had Seafood Yakisoba and Oyako Don, (Sweet Soy Chicken with Onion and egg)..

As always, I started with a salad, Kani and Tobiko Salad. It has chopped mixed greens, crab meat, cucumber, tobiko, Yuzu Skin, and Homemade Thousand Island Dressing.

If you can't decide what to eat, then ordered Teishoku set.  This set meal are usually common for lunch, but Motto Motto makes them available all day. Teishoku set are usually common for lunch, but Motto Motto makes them available all day, hence the title Motto Motto All Day Japanese.

For dessert we had Cookie Dough Cheesecake, Impossible Cake and Tablea Cake. John and I capped the night with Cafe Mocha and Flat White Coffee.

Fine Image Salon Celebrates 16th Year Anniversary

Maintaining a salon business is not easy. I know that for sure because I have two friends who were not successful keeping theirs. Marielle closed after just a year in operation while Mylene after two years.

Unlike Mylene and Marielle, Joy is blessed that her salon is still going strong.  Along with her family, friends and faithful staff, Fine Image Salon Celebrates 16th Year Anniversary last February!

Congrats Tukayo!

The Luxe Lounge in Ayala Mall Marikina

I am blessed that I have a business that does not require me to leave home. Although I am spared with the hassle of traffic, I still get stressed with so many other reasons. Whether I like it or not, urban living is such in a hurry that I'm experiencing fatigue and stress from time to time.

How do I battle stress then? I make sure to get at least once a week body massage. But let's face it, body massage can be quite expensive. Earlier today at The Luxe Lounge in Ayala Mall Marikina, I experienced a luxurious massage for thirty minutes that does require to take the clothes off. If you are the kind of person who prefers to be massaged without undressing, being being touched by a stranger, The Luxe Lounge is perfect for you. You only have to follow three rules, namely, put on the in-house foot socks for hygiene purposes, lower the voice and relax.

The Luxe Lounge is owned by Ms. Marivic Fajardo and her friend Elmie Cadungog. It started a few years ago when Ms. Marivic developed allergies and chronic stress. The Awesomeness of Singapore Math

Saturdays are mostly spent at home waking up late and relaxing with the family. This week is different because I got an invite from Miko of Galileo Enrichment Learning Program to attend the event The Awesomeness of Singapore Math at Power Mac Center.

The event, entitled “Awesome Singapore Math Add-Ventures.” The event discussed the hows and whys of Singapore Math by demonstrating how to unlock sample Math problems. The discussion was handled by Dr. Queena Lee-Chua, one of the leading minds in Math and an advocate of Singapore Math. She was joined by Scott L. Chua, who shared his experiences of transitioning into a Singapore Math program and how it helped shape his Math skills.

Why is Singapore Math popular among schools around the world?

The roots of this homegrown approach to Math started from a country with a population that struggled with Mathematics. Like most developing countries, they depended on textbooks and curriculum from foreign publishers. Recognizing the important role of Math education in shaping the citizens’ global proficiency, the Ministers of Education decided to take charge of the country's learning roadmap and developed an approach never before used in the world.

Enter Singapore Math, a teaching method that places emphasis on mathematical fluency through problem-solving without the need for rote learning and memorization. Fewer topics are introduced per level but discussed in greater detail, allowing deeper understanding and creating a strong foundation for higher math learning.

This change in direction proved effective as the country reaped its benefits. Since 1995, Singapore has consistently ranked first (or in the top three) in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and in the Program for International Student

Assessment (PISA). The tables suddenly turned and Singapore Math became the resource and standard of effective approaches to learning Math. Now, over 25 countries including USA, Canada, France, Saudi Arabia, and Israel (including the Philippines) have incorporated Singapore Math into their textbooks.

As one of the pioneers in advancement in learning, Galileo Enrichment Learning Program was the first to introduce Singapore Math as an after-school program and the first to hold Singapore Math Festivals in the Philippines. The Galileo Singapore Math Program aims to enhance the Math skills of students aged 6-12 through the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) Approach. This learning strategy allows the student to represent math concepts first through actual and concrete objects, then reinforced with a visual method called bar modeling, before finally progressing to mental solving techniques.

To strengthen its Singapore Math Program, Galileo has partnered with Add-Venture Learning, a publishing and training company headquartered in Singapore. Add-Venture Learning specializes in making Singapore Math an enjoyable experience for students through their game packages, apps, magazines, and training. Behind their products are prominent figures in the world of Singapore Math and are recognized for their contribution in shaping and training Singapore teachers of the Ministry of Education.

The two educational think tanks have shared teaching and learning philosophies which complement their approach to making learning fun and meaningful through play. Both Galileo and Add-Venture believe that a child learns best by enjoying what is taught. Both companies employ game-play elements and a variety of activities to bring amusement, wonder, and knowledge in every engagement of any child.

Decomposing Fruits and Vegetables Scraps

I used to believe that I don't have a green-thumb because every time I try my hand at planting nothing really comes alive. Decomposing fruits and vegetables scraps have made me love gardening and urban farming because it helped me develop nutrient rich soil that now yields papaya, sili, ginger and string beans. I even grew melon but due to lack of soil it didn't get to be that big.

Composting is a method of decomposing organic solid wastes. It can therefore be used to recycle organic material. The process involves decomposition of organic material into a humus-like material, known as compost, which is a good fertilizer for plants.

Other benefits of decomposing food scraps includes, keeping these materials out of landfills where they take up space and release methane, suppresses plant diseases and pests, provides organic matter and nutrients which will improve plant growth and lead to better yields.
