Xavier Dela Torre's Christening

Teaching is the number one profession in my list that I really admire. Teachers as they say have the power to mold students to be the best. Among the many teachers I've met, Teacher Joy (Juancho's adviser in Ange in nursery) is one of our super faves.  Even if she went to New Zealand we kept our communication open.

Fast forward to 8 years, Teacher Joy gave birth to a cute an adorable baby boy named Xavier. When she asked me to be Xavi's Godmother, my heart jumped with joy because it is an honor being a Godparent.

What made this occasion even more joyful? Xavi's  dad is named John. My husband is John. Xavi's  mom is named Joy. I am Joy.

Enjoy watching the edited version of Xavier Dela Torre's Christening last September 22, 2019.

Camsur Watersports Complex

Our first trip in Bicol was impromptu five years ago. We just hit the road and John drove 12 hours just to see my moms place. We didn't know where to stay but saw Camsur Watersports Complex along the way so we stayed there overnight.  There was a typhoon during that time so the place was kind of wreck.

On our recent trip, we got to enjoy the place because it was newly-renovated. I am highly recommending this place for family with children who are into water sports like wakeboarding

It was worth the long drive meeting and joining Teacher Jing's  Body Balance Yoga Class.

Lorenzo’s Sanctuary

If you frequent this blog you're well aware of things and activities I love like recycling, upcycling, yoga, planting.

I want to bring planting to the next level and have a small farm in my place in Antipolo. In preparation for this I, along with my husband and children, visited Lorenzo’s Sanctuary last week.

For families who are looking for a different and fun kind of bonding activity, I am highly recommending Lorenzo’s Sanctuary.

Lorenzo’s sanctuary is close to 1,700 sqm of agricultural lot situated at Brgy Burol Calamba Laguna. It started as a weekend place of the family but they have since opened the place to the public by offering activities such as farming workshops and small group teambuilding. They sell naturally grown produce from the farm and also makes jams and condiments with most ingredients coming from the farm. Their best selling item is the guava-tarragon jam. They prepare the jams in small batches at home with Lorenzo helping in the preparation from time to time when there is no school. Other items include spiced vinegar, chili flakes and coco nectar vinaigrette dressing.

Each time you buy their products and services, you help build Lorenzo’s sanctuary which will be a living testament that our persons with autism can lead productive and meaningful lives.

You may contact Lorenzo’s Sanctuary through FB page and Instragram account.

The Story Behind Lorenzo’s Sanctuary:

Lorenzo’s sanctuary is inspired by Lorenzo Miguel Medina, a teenage boy with autism. Lorenzo is non-verbal and goes to a transition school. His interest includes arts, swimming and going outdoors. He is happiest when surrounded by lush green environment and the beach. It is because of these interests of Enzo that his family thought of creating Lorenzo’s sanctuary where he can be surrounded with nature and become his source of livelihood in his adult years.

Lorenzo’s sanctuary is envisioned to be a place of healing where naturally grown foods can be found.
Our Lorenzo is a healthy eater himself. He eats almost all kinds of fruits and vegetables. He hardly get sick and has never been hospitalized all his life except when the day he was born. His family intends to keep it this way considering that Enzo has difficulty expressing himself in words. We also envision the place to be a training center for people particularly for persons with autism who are interested in farming.

BPI Taught Kids About Money Through Play at KidZania

It was an afternoon of fun and learning as BPI taught kids about money through play at KidZania last week where they learned the basics of financial management from Ma. Carmina Marquez, BPI Head for Deposit Products, and Owen Cammayo, BPI Head for Corporate Affairs and Communications.

BPI has been KidZania's banking partner since the indoor theme park opened in 2016.For kids, life is all about playing. And what better way to teach them financial responsibility than through learning about earning and keeping money through fun, practical play? Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and its thrift bank subsidiary BPI Family Savings Bank (BFSB) have applied the elements of gamification, through a partnership with theme park KidZania, to teach kids some important life skills that can be learned through play.

BFSB President Maria Cristina Go said KidZania, a place where kids learn through real-life role-playing activities, is the perfect place for making the concept of money more tangible. Since 2016, over 800,000 children have learned the basics of banking and financial responsibility through BPI and KidZania.

Children can  fill over a hundred  roles   across   65 establishments,   where   they   can   work   for  companies   in   various   industries   such   as   publishing   or pharmaceutical, or pay for services rendered in a beauty salon or training in a school. Financially savvy kids “Ultimately, they gain financial awareness as they have the liberty to manage their own kidZos—from budgeting to spending and saving,” Go said. “Kids learn that they can earn money by being productive and useful, that they can use the money for their needs and wants, and that they can save money for their future, to achieve bigger dreams.”

Go said this is all part of BPI’s vision of “Building a Better Philippines”, where every Filipino has access to financial services and possesses practical knowledge about saving and investing. Inside KidZania, there is a special BPI branch where kids are given special accounts and ATM cards for their kidZos, the currency used in the theme park. Their savings gain interest over time, which the kids can spend in their next visits. BPI is the exclusive bank partner of KidZania. Reinforcing financial literacy. Go said an example of a very useful product for kids is the Jumpstart savings account which is available through BPI and BFSB.

Jumpstart is for children aged 10 to 17 years old and requires only a minimum deposit of P100. A portion of the funds can be protected from unplanned withdrawals, and parents can easily transfer money to the account for allowances. The Jumpstart Debit Card can also be used for cellphone reloading. “People can rest assured that BPI will continue to educate and make saving easy for this generation. Through our partnership with KidZania and our other financial education programs, we hope to make lives better for a lot of our fellow Filipinos,” Go said.

Cardiovascular Management Through the Help of Amgen Phils. and Zuellig Corp.

Back in 2007, I almost had a heart attack due to high bad cholesterol, which I didn't know about. It started as stiff neck that went beyond a week. I eventually had complete lab tests that gave a result of having elevated bad cholesterol.  Even my doctor was surprised that I had that results because I exercise regularly and eat healthy food. My case, hereditary or familial case, which is probably the worst kind since it is already in my blood.

With that said, I am happy to have attended One Family, One Heart, One Goal Bloggers' Event earlier at the Crowne Plaza in Ortigas, Pasig City, where I learned more about Dyslipidemia (an abnormal amount of lipids,e.g. triglycerides, cholesterol and/or fat phospholipids) in the blood, from Dr. Lourdes Ella Santos.

There are 2 kinds of cholesterol in the body, good and bad. Elevated bad cholesterol, or low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C), in the blood increases a person's risk of developing stherosclerotic plaque deposits which can block the arteries and lead to a heart attack or stroke. Lowering LDL- C also lowers a persons chances of developing CVD.

With the patient at the heart, Amgen Philippines Inc. and Zuellig Pharma Corporation are committed to improving the lives of patients struggling with dyslipidemia by helping them and their families to take the necessary action to prevent and manage their health risks.

Urdhva Dhanurasana

I've been seeing/reading so many "Flex Ko Lang" posts in Facebook lately so I asked my youngest son what's with this line about, Juan said. "it means you want to share or show off something that the person is really proud of or happy about".

Makikiuso ako, for my first ever Flex Ko Lang post, this Urdhva Dhanurasana😀

Although I've started doing yoga many years back, I cannot do a lot of  poses yet because this past three months have been the longest I stayed doing yoga. I used to enrol, then stopped after a week or two. Hopefully staying for good, and sana, if laziness won't kick in, I hope to be a yoga teacher before I turn 50 in four years time.

Urdhva Dhanurasana (Upward Bow Pose) is an uplifting posture. It stimulates the nervous system and opens the heart, and can leave you glowing with energy and vitality for the rest of the day. Chakrasana or Urdhva Dhanurasana is an asana in yoga as exercise. It is a backbend and is the first pose of the finishing sequence in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. It gives great flexibility to the spine. In acrobatics and gymnastics this body position is called a bridge. (Source: Wikipedia)

Benefits of Urdhva Dhanurasana:

This asana also gives strength to your legs, abdomen, buttocks, spine, shoulder blades, glutes, hamstrings, lower back, wrists, and arms. It cures infertility, asthma, and osteoporosis. It also relieves stress and reduces depression, and makes you feel energetic and full of life. It also stimulates the abdominal organs and thyroid glands, which improves digestion and helps to regulate metabolism.
