My mom-in-law supplies us with a lot of eggs every week. We're running out of ideas on how to consume the eggs so I tried, for the very first time, how to make salted eggs.
We didn't have red food coloring so we opted for violet just for fun. 😀
Ingredients: Eggs, salt, water. If you wish to dye, you will be needing food coloring, hot water, vinegar.
Procedure:
1. Wash the eggs thoroughly. Set Aside.
2. Bring water to boil, add salt (according to the level of your taste). and stir until salt is totally dissolved. Set aside to cool completely.
3. Place the washed and dried eggs in a container carefully to avoid cracking.
4. Pour in the cooled salted water until covering all the eggs.
5. Cover the jar tightly so that the container is thoroughly sealed, and store in a cool, dry place for 30 to 60 days. Egg sizes vary, so brining time will vary as well. You can cook one after 30 days to see if it's done. Try again in 10-15 days if it's not quite there.
6. After 30 days or so, simply boil the eggs like any normal eggs.
7. Dyeing the eggs is optional. How do you dye salted eggs? To cook, put eggs in a sauce pan, cover with water and simmer on low heat for five minutes. You can add a few drops of food coloring if you want an authentic bright pink color. Add 1 tbsp. of vinegar to make the coloring adhere to the egg shells.
