Free Seeds and Seedlings

I have grown pechay thru cuttings many times already but I wanted to try if I'll be successful growing it by seeds. Luckily the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) Crop Research and Production Support Division (CRPSD) is giving away free seeds and seedlings to residents of Metro Manila to help them get started with their own edible home garden.

How to plant Pechay Seeds? Drop 2 to 3 seeds per slot, then cover them with a thin layer of potting mix or compotost. In just 3-4 days, you can already see the small buds growing out of the soil. After 30 days, here's my pechay!

For those interested, here’s how to claim the free seeds and seedlings:

Walk-ins are allowed. For those in the metro, the seeds and seedlings are available for claiming at BPI branches in Malate and Quezon City during office hours.

For pick-up via courier, clients must book from their preferred courier and shoulder the expenses. Only one set of seeds, or five vegetable seeds, is available per household. Five to 10 households from a particular location can avail of the seeds via courier.

Those residing in the province can also claim the seeds from local government units such as Provincial or Municipal Agriculture Office, DA-Regional Field Offices (RFO), or BPI Centers in Baguio, Los BaƱos, Davao, Guimaras, and La Granja.

The distribution of free seeds and seedlings are among the many actions done by the DA through its regional branches and extensions to get people to participate in its Plant, Plant, Plant Program which aims to create a food secure community by having people grow their own food at home.
