Chef Bruce Lim - Cool Chef with a Big Heart

Have to admit that I was a bit nervous about the invite for food tasting at HYPHY’S knowing that Chef Bruce Lim (who partly owns the place) will be there to help us through the menu. I first saw Chef Bruce about 4 years ago at Clara Ole Chef's Challenge where he competed with Chef Eugene Raymundo. Then last year when I joined the Electrolux Wok-a-holics, where Chef Bruce was one of the judges. All the contestants were terrified, he seemed 'suplado’ or a snob. I was dead wrong! I learned more when we sat down with him last week at HYPHY’S.

Joyfuly enough, I found out that Chef Bruce is the real deal---a cool guy, a true blue food lover, a perfectionist when it comes to cooking, has high integrity and heart - yes, a big heart. He does not accept professional fees when schools/students invite him for cooking lessons. He happily imparts his knowledge and love for cooking to the young and future chefs for as long as his busy schedule permits. He is an advocate of WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) for he believes in saving the world's most precious natural resources, saving endangered species and reducing our impact on our planet. Chef Bruce's advocacy is evident in HYPHY'S and Chef's Table, both restaurants use brown paper bags, and brown paper for place mats.

At 33, Chef Bruce has made a name for himself not only in the culinary scene but in the hearts of many Filipinos. He owns two restaurants, a cooking show and a lot of endorsements. Way to go, Chef Bruce!!!

  1. Jes: Actually, may nagsulat dati Chef Bruce Lee...kakatawa!!!

  2. When the chef looks as cool as Chef Bruce, we can be sure the food he'll be serving is delicious...he is obviously is happy in what he does, sprinkling it with love, I bet.

  3. oh yeah, from the aura of his face, I could also tell that he is a joyful person!
I wish I could attend to such event! nice!

Thank you for the joyful comments!
