Easy and Inexpensive Way to Whiten Teeth

My husband is a heavy coffee drinker. He consumes at least 5 cups of brewed coffee a day. Because of this his teeth are discolored and stained.

I remember when I was teaching twins Julia and Rafael about colors, when asked to find a yellow thing, "Rafael blurted, Dad's teeth are yellow!".

We have found an easy and inexpensive way to whiten teeth...

Happy Halloween to all!!!

Here's the real deal, Tips and Warnings for Whitening Teeth

1.  Brush and floss regularly.
2. Visit your dentist for regular dental cleanings.
3.  Soak cotton in baking soda and lemon juice mixture then  wipe to the teeth
4.  Use whitening toothpastes. (Note: These products don't provide a complete remedy).
5.  Avoid using worn out toothbrush as it limits its capacity to thoroughly clean teeth.
6.  Avoid drinking coffee, tea and other colored beverages because these can stain your teeth quickly.
7. Avoid smoking because this  can turn the color of your teeth to yellow.

Ooops, our sons insisted in posing for this post, too:

The Kids Are Alright

It's semestral break and this means rest for me. I have a week to enjoy movies that were not shown in the Philippines so I started this day with the movie The Kids Are Alright.

The story revolves around the unconventional family of lesbian couple Jules and Nic  who have been together for almost 20 years and have two teenage offspring named Joni and Laser. Both kids seek to find out  their biological father (a sperm donor).  Once the donor is found, the household will never be the same again.

Directed by Lisa Cholodenko, Casts includes: Julianne Moore as Jules, Annette Bening as Nic, Mark Ruffalo as Paul, Mia Wasikowska as Jon, and Josh Hutcherson as Laser, this movie heartfelt and irresistible.

The Kids Are Alright is rated R for strong sexual content, nudity, language and some teen drug and alcohol use.

Chef's Noodle's Newest Endorsers

Last Saturday’s invitation from Chef’s Noodle to cover the special photo shoot of their newest endorders, Down to Mars  and the Semerad twins, proved to be worth my time as I got to interview young talents who were all very accommodating to answer our questions.
The Semerad twins, Anthony and David, at 21 are two of the most popular hardcourt celebrities right now. They are playing at NCAA for San Beda. Both are looking forward in playing in the PBA within the next 2 or 3 years.

Along with my friend Lyn and Goddaughter Jam, we arrived very early at the venue so we had ample time to interview, goof and take photos with Down to Mars – the country’s first inter-pop music group under GMA records. The group is composed of 7 young guys in their early 20s. Members are of mix breed, some are half Pinoys, half Chinese, half Koreans and or half Japanese. Although not familiar with this  all-male group, instantly like these guys as they rendered some lines of their songs. They all can sing and dance. It was also great to know that they are being managed by Ms. Gelleen Eugenio.

The photo shoot was done by  master lensman Doc Marlon Pecjo, who has done countless editorial and advertising projects from different companies.

EvoLife Products Designed for Cancer Patients

Last Wednesday, October 24, 2012, Point of Care Solutions (PCSI) introduced EvoLife products  for skin, oral, nail and hygiene care designed for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments that revolutionize the whole experience of cancer treatment for cancer patients who have chosen this path of healing.

The event happened at Dad’s-Kamayan-Saisaki (Sanbo-Kojin) along EDS. A respected oncologist explained the chemotherapy and radiation therapy experience and discussed the therapeutic effects of the new products. Patients who have already tried out the products also shared their personal experiences and showed how the healing process helped them.

According to medical studies, 40% of cancer patients die because they give up the fight, meaning many of them no longer want to continue treatment because of the extreme discomforts and physical challenges of radiation and chemo therapy such as mouth sores, skin rashes, burns, cracked and blackened nails, falling hair and the general feeling of dread and helplessness.

Alleviating the Side Effects of Cancer Treatment

With the growing census of cancer incidence in the country, there is real concern in providing supportive care not only during treatment but more so when the treatment side effects start manifesting.

For cancer patients, managing the side effects is as important as addressing the cancer itself. According to doctors, side effects can compromise treatment and even recovery. According to Dr. Maria Luisa Abesamis-Tiambeng, M.D., head of the CSMC Cancer Institute, M.D.  “The psychological scars caused by the physical manifestations of treatment, like rashes, skin discoloration, blackened nails and falling hair erode patients’ self-esteem and the will to fight. But psychological well-being is crucial to a successful treatment. If cancer patients feel low and miserable, their response to treatment is greatly affected. So if the side effects of treatment do not bother the patient, their treatment regimen becomes more tolerable, if not welcome. Products like Evolife can help make patients commit to their treatment regimen and achieve the ultimate cure. These innovative products can prove crucial in licking the Big C.”

My Style Statement Inspired by The Ramp Crossings

For pieces that is worth keeping I go at The Ramp Crossings where I am free to explore and experiment on clothes that will match my personality and style.  Unlike other women, I'm not fashionista by heart but I have to because of my profession, Events Planner and Host. I also have to dress well for events that I cover for this blog .

My style statement requires comfort and flexibility since I move a lot when hosting. I always prefer pants over skirt because I don't own a pair of nice legs. For this ensemble, I  look taller and slimmer.

Black halter top, peplum style @P2,200
Black skinny, stretch pants @ P1,700
Black flatform shoes @P1,699.75

Since I have a hard time mixing and matching clothes, I always solicit the help of The Ramp's  sales clerk who are all ready to lend a hand. My personal favorite among them are Beth and Jes. Both women have been with The Ramp for 5 years now, an indication that they love their job and their company.

The Ramp also carry fashionable clothes and accessories for kids.

Allow me to tell you my love affair with The Ramp. It all started 3 years ago when I bought this blue long blouse.  In times when I don't exactly know what to wear, I grab this blouse and I'm ready to go. I've worn this for many occasions, be it for business or personal events.  With proper care, the color remained the same.

Below are some of the photos when and where I wore this blouse:

At Nuffnang Blue Party last February 27, 2012, I paired it with black leggings and accessorized with silver necklace and silver bangle.

Visited my friends and office mates last February 2011.
I paired it with black boots.

Attended a beauty product event at Makati Shangri-La.
I paired it with black denims and shiny black wedge.

Hosted Mommy Academy's Kid Adventure Club in Dusit Hotel in 2010.
I put on gold and pearl earrings, gold and pearl necklace for a more feminine and sophisticated look.

My friend and stylist, Lani, tells me to give this blouse a rest but I just can't let go of this piece so I continue to wear it even after 3 years.

Just last Sunday, I hosted my friend's 40th Birthday Picnic and Pool Party at Secret Garden.

And tomorrow, this is what I'm going to wear for a product launch...

Flawless Online Revolution

As Flawless marked its 11th anniversary just a month ago they have formally launched its new digital face and voice via Flaunt. Flawless also revamped their social networking site, namely Facebook and Twitter .  Last April 2012,

Flawless launched Flaunt, an online magazine intended to be Flawless’ signature online editorial habitat. Flaunt was founded on the premise of making beauty accessible to everyone. From beauty tips courtesy of Flawless’ acclaimed roster of Skin Professionals to stories of human interest, the publication aims to improve the quality of life people have by giving them the tools they need to achieve the most beautiful expression of themselves.

“We launched Flaunt mainly to better get our message across an array of audiences,” shares Rubby Sy, CEO of Flawless. “The problem with newsletters is that only a number of people get to read them and they’re forgettable and lack impact. If you’re not part of our mailing list, the chance of you receiving monthly content from us is close to zero. Likewise, if you do, by chance, receive emails from us, there’s a big possibility that you’ll skip opening what we sent. Launching a digital magazine is the wisest way around these challenges. Not only are we now able to send out our messages across a wider market, we also do so using a platform that evokes the    kind of lifestyle we promote—fun and dynamic     yet sensible. In more ways than one, Flaunt is an extension of Flawless. This is why my team and myself strive really hard to incorporate as much of ourselves into our content. The Internet offers unprecedented opportunities for readers to engage with ideas and stories beyond those seen in traditional publications. Traditionally, companies have used their websites for sales and marketing. We believe they should also use their websites to publish," Sy adds.

New and Improved Digital Domain
Flawless now added more value to its revamped look, the new website serves as a goldmine of information for beauty and wellness aficionados. It hosts Flawless’ full line of first-rate products and services including its revolutionary four-way slimming and body sculpting program, Shape & Sculpt. A separate section is dedicated to highlighting the brand’s franchise program.
“This is the first time that we’ll be updating our website since launching it 2 years ago,” shares Flawless’ Business Manager, Drew Donovan-Mendoza. “After 11 successful years in the business, we thought it’s only proper we do something to improve the experience our customers get when they visit our site. It’s a very personal change; kind of like refurbishing your home. You don’t just want to improve the aesthetic aspects of the space, you also want to make it functional and most importantly, you want it to reflect your personality.”

Flawless’ Marketing Manager, Patricia Mendoza adds, "In revamping our website, our main focus was not about our preference on design and features but more about improving the overall online experience of current and potential patients. The website design, navigation and sections were mapped out to reflect the mindset of someone looking for information on a certain product or service and ready to make a purchase decision. We want to make it easy and convenient for our patients to look for what they want may it be product information, how a particular service is done, nearest clinic location, inquire about franchising or simply to book an appointment with the clinic."

A New Voice
Flawless recently revamped the way the brand interacts with the rest of the online community as seen in their Twitter and Facebook accounts. They now uses a more humble and personal voice to interact with their audience by way of  “speaking the language” of its market. To put it in simpler words, Flawless is veering away from the usual corporate-sounding tone that most companies use.

Freeway and Botong Francisco

Freeway held a fashion and art exhibit at The Row, Glorietta 1, as it immortalizes and honors Botong Francisco’s paintings in to a wearable art.  From canvass to fabric, Freeway’s Holiday Collection consists of beautiful tailored dresses in woven poplins and soft materials like chiffon,   a range of silhouettes of casual and corporate tops, plus favorite gift items like accessories, watch, tote bags and more. The 25 piece collection comes in vibrant holiday colors, befitting the color palette of Botong Francisco’s paintings. Like always, an attractive packaging and a biography tag accompanies each item.  The collection  are already available in stores this October.

The event was hosted by great actress, Cherie Gil and was well-attended by fashion and art enthusiasts, media friends and bloggers and the family and friends of Botong, it was a splendid night of art, fashion and a grand presentation of Filipino talent.

The event night opened with a very impressive art exhibition by Michael Blanco’s Academy of Artists,  showcasing young talented artists at work, ages 6 years old to 12 years old, all from Botong Francisco’s hometown province of Angono Rizal.

To shed more light into the human side of our National Artist, host Cherie Gil interviewed  special guests   Ino Manalo  (Executive Director of the National Archives) and Carlos “Totong”  Francisco II (Grandson of Botong Francisco) who both shared interesting stories and trivia about Botong Francisco and his big influence in Philippines Art and Culture.  Another guest who joined the art experts during the interview is former Governor of Tarlac, Margarita “Tingting” Cojuangco who’s a passionate lover of art and fashion. The audience was able to participate in the discussion by sending questions via Live Tweeting. It was indeed a meaningful artistic experience and a deeper insight into Philippine Arts and Culture in one delightful evening.
